EXO’s Chanyeol sent a personal message to South Korean curling athlete Kim Young Mi on the latest episode of “Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook”!
Chanyeol had previously mentioned that he wanted to meet Kim Young Mi, who recently won a silver medal at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics as a member of the South Korean women’s curling team, because she shares his mother’s name. He explained that because the other curlers on the team repeatedly called out the name “Young Mi” during their matches, he was frequently reminded of his mother while watching the competition on television. Kim Young Mi later responded by praising Chanyeol’s dance moves in the choreography for “Growl.”
During the March 3 broadcast of “Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook,” MC Yoo Hee Yeol brought up the fact that Chanyeol’s mother was also named Young Mi and asked him to send a video message to the curler.
Chanyeol remarked, “I really enjoyed watching the [Olympic] curling competition, and you worked so hard to win the silver medal.”
He then amusingly revealed that he had ended up calling his mother more often after watching the curling matches. “To Young Mi, who has the same name as my mother—thanks to you, I contacted my mother a lot,” he said. “I think I enjoyed watching the curling even more because it reminded me a lot of my mother. Please keep up the good work! Thank you.”
Chanyeol also talked about EXO’s performance at the 2018 Winter Olympics closing ceremony. He confessed, “I was nervous, and because it was something I had never even imagined, I was very surprised when they first told us that we would be performing. But because I really enjoyed watching this year’s Olympic games, I had a lot of fun during the performance.”
When asked about EXO’s upcoming plans, he replied, “We still have a few stops left on our tour, so we plan to continue [holding concerts]. And I believe that we’ll be returning in the future with a good album for all of you.”
