The identity of a girl group vocalist was unveiled on the June 24 broadcast of MBC’s “The King of Mask Singer”!
During the episode, “Carp Lady” and “Coral Girl” faced off in the first round while singing Davichi’s “8282” together.” The two singers showed off their contrasting vocal colors as they took on the classic duet.
As “Coral Girl” ended up moving on to the next round with 61 points to 38 points, “Carp Lady” had to unmask herself. While singing Sung Si Kyung’s “On the Street,” she revealed herself to be none other than AOA’s lead vocalist Hyejeong!
The panelists couldn’t hide their surprise as many of them had believed she wasn’t an idol based on how she danced earlier in the program.
Hyejeong revealed, “I’ve always stood on stage as an AOA and sang with my group, but this is the first time I’ve sang an entire song by myself so I’m very nervous right now. [AOA] is currently promoting with a song called ‘Bingle Bangle.’ I hope that all of our individual and group activities will go well.”
In an interview afterwards, Hyejeong added how she thinks viewers wouldn’t have been able to guess her identity. “I danced funnily to not make it obvious that I was a girl group member and I think that it worked. I’m very satisfied and happy. I was really nervous, but I had a happy experience because I was able to sing.”
