INFINITE's L, Go Ara, And More Attend Script Reading For New Legal Drama

JTBC’s upcoming drama “Miss Hammurabi” (literal title) has released new photos from its first table read!

“Miss Hammurabi” is a courtroom drama that will tell the story of three very different judges: Park Cha Oh Reum, the passionate and idealistic rookie judge (played by Go Ara); Im Ba Reun, the principled judge who believes in doing everything by the book (played by INFINITE’s L); and Han Sae Sang, the experienced and realistic head judge (played by Sung Dong Il).

The drama is based on a novel by real-life judge Moon Yoo Suk, who also wrote the screenplay. Instead of depicting melodramatic, larger-than-life cases, “Miss Hammurabi” will focus more on realistic, everyday stories that could happen to anyone.

At the first script reading, the judge-turned-writer kicked things off by addressing the actors directly. “‘Miss Hammurabi’ is the story of people who, even on a small scale, try to change the world from where they stand,” said Moon Yoo Suk. “All of you who are here today are the true writers of the drama, the ones who will cast the spell to bring the words to life and make them stand up from the page.”

Over the course of the read-through, leading lady Go Ara reportedly impressed everyone with her lively performance as Park Cha Oh Reum. The actress was so deeply immersed in her character that she even shed tears during an emotional scene. INFINITE’s L and Sung Dong Il also showed remarkable teamwork and a relaxed professionalism throughout the reading.

Meanwhile, actor Ryu Deok Hwan was reportedly so entertaining in his role as the clever, well-connected judge Jung Bo Wang that he kept everyone laughing throughout the table read. Actress Lee Elijah also impressed those present with her mastery of her role as the beautiful, cool-headed Lee Do Yeon.

In addition to the leads, actors Kim Young Ok, Lee Won Jong, Go In Bum, Park Soon Chun, and Lee Chul Min attended the read-through as well.

Director Kwak Jung Hwan, who also helmed “Slave Hunters,” “Fugitive: Plan B,” and “The K2,” had nothing but praise for the actors after the reading. “I worried a lot about how to transfer the script to the screen,” he remarked, “but I was emotionally moved after seeing the actors play their roles.”

“Miss Hammurabi” is set to air sometime in May 2018.
