On October 23, YG Entertainment announced, “BLACKPINK recently signed a contract with Interscope, a label under Universal Music, the world’s largest record company. Through YG and Interscope’s partnership, we will make BLACKPINK global stars all over the world.”

The agency added, “As a partner of Universal Music Group, YG, who has its own strengths in Asia, will be creating a diverse array of global projects in the future.”

Interscope Records is currently home to an impressive roster of artists that includes Lady Gaga, Eminem, Maroon 5, Kendrick Lamar, U2, Madonna, The Black Eyed Peas, Lana Del Rey, Dr. Dre, Selena Gomez, Imagine Dragons, Ellie Goulding, Rae Sremmurd, and more.

Lucian Grainge, the chairman and CEO of the label’s parent company Universal Music Group, remarked, “Chairman Yang [Hyun Suk] has built YG Entertainment into a global music powerhouse with an impressive track record of breaking artists. I’m thrilled to expand our relationship with YG through the addition of BLACKPINK to the Interscope family. We look forward to building upon BLACKPINK’s remarkable early success by putting the global resources of UMG behind them and growing their audience around the world.”

John Janick, the chairman and CEO of Interscope Geffen A&M, added, “BLACKPINK are global superstars in the making. The music and visuals are so immediately striking and so different from anything else happening in pop music. We are beyond excited to partner with YG in pursuit of their vision for BLACKPINK world domination.”

YG Entertainment head Yang Hyun Suk commented, “BLACKPINK’s contract was decided quickly, thanks to the direct involvement of chairman Lucian [Grainge]. We will work very closely with Universal, the largest music company in the world, and do everything we can to ensure BLACKPINK’s successful global debut and [future] activities.”

“Additionally,” he continued, “with BLACKPINK as our start, we anticipate that this will become good momentum for YG’s artists to advance into the North American and European markets in the future.”

BLACKPINK recently collaborated with British singer Dua Lipa on the bilingual track “Kiss and Make Up,” which was released on October 19. The group is also currently preparing for their first solo concert in Korea, which will take place on November 10 and 11 at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul.
