“PD Notebook,” MAMAMOO, “Terius Behind Me,” And More Win At 31st Korea Producer Awards

On March 27, the Korean Producers & Directors Association revealed the winners for the 31st Korea Producer Awards.

The Korea Producer Awards recognizes producing directors (PDs) and entertainers who have contributed to free press and the development of society and culture.

This year, the PD of the Year Award went to the PDs of MBC’s “PD Notebook.” “PD Notebook” was praised for covering various political, religious and media related issues including the case of late actress Jang Ja Yeon. Not only did the show expose the issues of the case connected to Chosun Ilbo, but it also picked out problems within the political work and power of the national intelligence agencies.

The Award for Experimental Spirit in TV went to EBS’s “Docuprime – Burnout Kids,” which is a program that critiqued the reality of the education system that makes kids burnt out since elementary school. The program showed the process of one elementary school undergoing the “Raising a Pig Project” for 100 days to showcase children having various experiences and independently solving problems that can’t be learned from books. The same award in the radio department was won by “Meet the Composer Sejong.”

Other notable awards include the Best Drama Award, which went to MBC’s “Terius Behind Me,” and the Best Variety Award, which went to SBS’s “Baek Jong Won’s Alley Restaurant.” “PD Notebook” also won the Best Current Events And Documentary Program Award.

Winners of the Performer Awards include actor Choi Soo Jong, MAMAMOO, actor Kim Seung Woo, entertainer Choi Hwa Jung, comedian Yoo Min Sang, and more.

The ceremony for the 31st Korea Producer Awards will take place on April 1 at 7 p.m. KST and will be hosted by comedian Kim Yong Man and KBS announcer Lee Hye Sung, taking place at KBS Hall in Yeouido, Seoul. Artists including MOMOLAND and popera group Forestella will be performing at the show. The ceremony is expected to be broadcast on April 9 starting at 1:50 p.m. KST.
