Watch: WINNER's Kang Seung Yoon, PENTAGON's Jinho And Hui, And WJSN's Yeonjung Take The Crowd Back To The '90s With Fresh Performances

A new set of talented artists went head-to-head in remaking ’90s hits on MBC’s “Show that Rewrites the Charts, What is No. 1 Right Now?”

The show, which first aired as a Lunar New Year special earlier this year, was newly programmed as a fixed show. The April 12 broadcast features some of the hottest singers today competing for the No. 1 spot with renditions of songs that topped charts two decades ago.

WJSN’s Yeonjung took the stage first with a cover of 015B’s “Empty Street.” She impressed with her captivating high notes that presented a sense of yearning that could almost surpass the original. 015B member Jang Ho Il praised her highly, commenting, “There is no stage more perfect than this one.”

Next up was Kassy and Giant Pink, who delivered a fun rendition of Hyun Jin Young’s “Sad Mannequin,” complete with the original singer’s signature “bunny dance.” Upon watching the stage, Hyun Jin Young was swept up in his memories of 1991 and tearfully expressed his regret for not showing more performances in the past, making for an emotional and meaningful moment.

Following this, John Park wooed the audience with his sweet and soulful voice in his performance of Kim Ji Yeon’s “When The Cold Wind Blows,” and PENTAGON’s Hui and Jinho wowed their fellow artists and viewers alike with an energetic cover of Kim Min Woo’s “My Friend, My Place of Reprieve.”

One of the most surprising moments of the night came through WINNER’s Kang Seung Yoon’s performance of Haebaragi’s song “With Love,” as he invited the audience to sing together in the middle of the song. They readily obliged, which created a beautifully moving collaboration. Afterwards, Haebaragi member Lee Ju Ho warmly hugged Kang Seung Yoon and did not let go of his hand until the end, showing unguarded affection.

At the end of this fierce competition, it was Haebaragi’s Lee Ju Ho and WINNER’s Kang Seung Yoon who claimed first place, bringing “With Love” to the No. 1 position once more in 2019. Lee Ju Ho expressed his gratefulness and wittily remarked, “This program is quite fun. I wonder why I didn’t like these chart ranking programs when I was younger,” drawing a sea of smiles from the crowd.
