MBC's New Spy Drama

MBC’s “Different Dreams” is off to an impressive start!

“Different Dreams” is a new espionage drama set in the 1930s, during the Japanese colonization of Korea. The drama tells the story of the fight for independence led by Kim Won Bong, the leader of the secret organization Heroic Corps (played by Yoo Ji Tae), and Lee Young Jin, a surgeon who becomes a spy for the resistance (played by Lee Yo Won). Im Joo Hwan and Nam Gyu Ri also star in the drama as a Japanese prosecutor and a jazz club singer respectively.

Despite premiering against stiff competition from SBS’s historical drama “Nokdu Flower,” the new spy drama enjoyed strong viewership ratings for its very first broadcast. According to Nielsen Korea, the May 4 premiere of “Different Dreams” scored average nationwide ratings of 5.0 percent, 7.1 percent, 5.9 percent, and 6.5 percent for its four parts.

“Nokdu Flower,” which aired during an overlapping time slot, scored average nationwide ratings of 6.8. percent and 8.1 percent for the night.

Meanwhile, KBS 2TV’s hit weekend drama “Mother of Mine” continued to dominate the Saturday night ratings battle. With average nationwide ratings of 19.4 percent and 24.8 percent for its two parts, “Mother of Mine” remained the most-watched drama of the evening.
