Girl Group SeeYa Opens Up About Misunderstandings Between Members And Their Disbandment In 2011

On the February 21 broadcast of JTBC’s “Sugar Man 3,” 2000s girl group SeeYa (Kim Yeon Ji, Lee Bo Ram, Nam Gyu Ri) appeared as guests.

The group debuted in 2006 and disbanded in 2011. When asked about their disbandment, Kim Yeon Ji said, “At the time, each of us had our own things going on, and we also had a lot of promotions, so we never opened up to each other or had deep conversation.”

She continued, “We all had concerns, but because we knew how hard it was, we couldn’t outwardly show our struggles. If we had talked about these things sooner, I think we would have been able to understand each other more.”

Lee Bo Ram said, “Honestly, we weren’t so young that you could say we were immature, but I think I was lacking in many ways. There was a misunderstanding, and it felt like the truth, so I stopped seeing [Nam Gyu Ri]. One, and then two years passed, and I regretted my actions. I wish I had just been mature and talked it through with her.” She added, “And I was really scared of her. Thinking of what would happen if she made a bad decision, I was really, really scared. Personally, I’m so thankful that she got through it and continued living.”

Nam Gyu Ri, who left the group in 2009 and later returned for the group’s final promotions in 2011, said, “Thinking back on our younger selves, it was probably easy for others to think that we were really happy, since we were really loved, would win No. 1, and had a lot of fans. But we were kids in our early 20s who had just started working. We were so young and scared. And the best I could do at the time was to leave the group.”

She said, “I didn’t have any hopes that I would be able to return to the industry, and I was even looking into emigration, so I could leave Korea.”
