7 Dramas To Watch Starring The Talented And Beautiful Park Min Young

If you were to ask any avid K-drama viewer their top 10 favorite dramas, there’s a pretty high chance that it would include the likes of “Sungkyunkwan Scandal,” “Healer,” or “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim.” And what do all these dramas have in common? Park. Min. Young. She not only has the talent, the beauty, and the insane chemistry with her male co-stars, but she apparently also has the golden touch, turning each of the projects she’s worked on into gems of their own. And so here we give you some of Park Min Young’s greatest hits, including a gender-bender, a historical, an action, a rom-com, and a recent drama.

Sungkyunkwan Scandal (2010)

Prior to 2010, Park Min Young had already made her acting debut with the sitcom “Unstoppable High Kick,” took a turn as a nine-tailed fox in “Hometown Legends,” as well as appeared in a few other dramas. However, “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” is often considered to be the drama that truly put her on the map.

In this historical fusion drama, Park Min Young disguises herself as her brother in order to enroll in the prestigious education institute Sungkyunkwan (only men were allowed to study there). Park Min Young’s performance as the underdog thirsting for knowledge and societal acceptance, while also navigating the messy waters of romance and bromance, is deserving of all the love this little cult drama enjoys until this day.

City Hunter (2011)

“City Hunter” is an action drama about a young man, Lee Yoon Sung (Lee Min Ho), who seeks to exact revenge on the politicians who were involved with his father’s death many years ago. While serving justice vigilante-style, he comes across Kim Na Na (Park Min Young), a member of the Presidential Security Service and someone who happens to be protecting his targets. Yoon Sung eventually falls for her and things only get more complicated from there.

Park Min Young does a wonderful job here pulling off her role as the tough bodyguard while still being winsome, and her chemistry with Lee Min Ho is so good, you wished there were more scenes of them together.

Healer (2014-5)

While Park Min Young has plenty of memorable dramas in her filmography, “Healer” is definitely one that is high on that list. This drama garnered a rabid fanbase, especially amongst international fans, and everyone and their mothers fell in love with Ji Chang Wook and the absolutely sizzling chemistry he shared with Park Min Young. Tonally, it’s somewhat similar to “City Hunter,” but — no offense to those who love “City Hunter” — “Healer” turns out to be the slicker, more polished product. It deftly combines action, thriller, and romance, and with well-developed characters, it’s no wonder this drama is so beloved by many.

Park Min Young delivers some of her best work here, bringing the multi-layered character of Young Shin to life filled with sassiness and tenacity, and makes you wish you had a friend like her in real life.

Queen for 7 Days (2017)

“Queen for 7 Days” tells of the tragic love story between a lady and her prince — based on true events that happened during the late 14th century Joseon — where the Queen (Lady Shin) is removed from her seat after just seven days. Park Min Young, in one of her rarer forays into sageuks, plays the character of the strong-willed and optimistic Lady Shin. And while the drama does pepper in light-hearted moments, it’s the dramatic beats that really showcase Park Min Young’s talents. She nails the struggle and anguish of being torn between two equally impressive men, walking between the thin lines of honoring her heart or her country.

What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim (2018)

Based on a novel turned webtoon, “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim,” tells of the story of a secretary who has been dealing with a demanding boss for the past nine years. After finally clearing her family’s debt, she decides to quit and take the chance to live her life the way she always wanted. Park Min Young, as the titular secretary to Park Seo Joon‘s Lee Young Joon, is so effortlessly charming and radiant throughout, your eyes can’t help but be drawn to her. Her natural chemistry with Park Seo Joon also makes their scenes together deliciously swoon-worthy.

Her Private Life (2019)

Park Min Young establishes herself as the queen of rom-com by following “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim” with the just as swoony drama, “Her Private Life.” In this fun, lighted-hearted drama, Park Min Young’s Sung Duk Mi ignites a golden (yes, the pun is necessary) relationship with Kim Jae Wook‘s Ryan Gold, all the while being totally relatable as a devoted fangirl to boy group member, Cha Shi An (ONE). It’s a treat to watch as she switches effortlessly between a professional career woman and a young-at-heart fangirl, and later as a woman who nabs herself the perfect man.

I’ll Go To You When The Weather Is Nice (2020)

In Park Min Young’s latest (and currently-airing) drama “I’ll Go To You When The Weather Is Nice,” she teams up with Seo Kang Joon to deliver us a tale of heart and healing. Park Min Young is Mok Hae Won, a woman who returns to her hometown after she gets tired of the harshness of city life. There, she reunites with bookstore owner Im Eun Seob (Seo Kang Joon), someone who has had a crush on her for a long time. As Park Min Young herself puts it, Mok Hae Won is different from her past bright and cheery characters, as Hae Won starts the drama closed-off, coming from a place of hurt. We know Park Min Young can deliver those deep, emotional beats, so for sure this is one drama you should keep an eye on!
