EXO's Suho Talks About The Difficulties Of Promoting Alone, His Enormous Shoe Collection, And More

On the April 3 broadcast of SBS PowerFM’s “Escape at 2 O’Clock Cultwo Show,” EXO’s Suho appeared as a guest and talked about his first solo album, his enormous shoe collection, and more.

He said, “The name of the album is ‘Self-Portrait.’ I participated in writing the lyrics for all of the songs, and I told my story in the album.”

Suho explained the play on words that is the name of his title track, “Let’s Love” (in Korean: “Saranghaja“). “The title is EXO’s motto. The reason there is a period between sarang and haja is that the song is about people who have flaws (haja) in their love (sarang). Everyone has scars and pain from love, and the song urges everyone to continue to love despite that.”

Talking about being on his own without the rest of the EXO members, Suho said, “It was okay when I was recording the album and shooting the music video, but promoting alone has been hard. I did talk a lot as the leader of the group, but if I wasn’t being very entertaining [on a show], the EXO members could help me out. Now, if I’m not entertaining, then it’s just no fun, and the flow of everything gets interrupted. I can’t tell if I’m being funny. These days, there isn’t even a studio audience, so it’s lonely.”

On the EXO members’ reactions to his title track being named after the group’s slogan, Suho said, “Their first reaction was, ‘What is this?’ But after the song came out and they saw that the fans liked it, they complimented the choice of title.”

The EXO leader confessed he loves shoes, and said, “I have over 500 pairs. I collect shoes, and I stick to one brand. Back then, around when we first debuted, I stood in line once for a limited edition pair. It’s been about 10 years since I’ve [liked that brand]. Before debuting, we couldn’t wear dress shoes to dance and had to wear sneakers, and I liked the fit of it.”

Suho also shared difficulties from when he was roommates with Sehun. He said, “I was roommates with Sehun for about seven years, and it was really hard during the summer and winter. Our ideal indoor temperatures were different. He’d turn the air conditioning way up in the summer and turn the heat up a lot in the winter.”
