9 K-Dramas That Bring Supernatural Powers Into The Real World
The supernatural theme often finds a spot in K-dramas, sometimes with an entire world dedicated to it. Yet, there are some dramas that are set in an ordinary world with just a hint of fantasy – or science fiction – namely in the form of superpowers that are within the (main) characters’ possession.
Here is a non-exhaustive list of dramas featuring characters with supernatural powers in an ordinary setting.

1. “He Is Psychometric”
GOT7‘s Jinyoung stars in this thriller as Lee Ahn, a psychometric young man who crosses paths during an investigation case with Yoon Jae In, played by Shin Ye Eun, who happens to have a dark secret that mustn’t be revealed no matter the cost. Psychometry is the ability to read the secrets of a person or an object with a simple touch. Lee Ahn doesn’t have a grip on his abilities, and with his clumsy personality, he often finds himself in trouble. Jinyoung’s hands received a lot of attention following the nature of the superpower his character owns, and he studied his role meticulously to properly portray his abilities in a natural and realistic manner.

2. “Memorist”
Dong Baek, played by Yoo Seung Ho, is a gifted detective with a volatile temper who works on a serial killer case side to side with Han Sun Mi (played by Lee Se Young), a self-assured criminal profiler with an unconventional attitude. Yoo Seung Ho’s gift is reading people’s memories, which happens to be very practical during his investigations and even makes him a certified psychic. Furthermore, his power allows him to empathize with victims by feeling their pain, which allows him further insight to solve his cases.

3. “The Game: Towards Zero”
2PM’s Taecyeon stars in this drama as Kim Tae Pyung, a man who can foresee someone’s death by a simple gaze into their eyes. However, his powers are futile when he meets detective Seo Joon Young (played by Lee Yeon Hee) who’s investigating a two-decade-old murder case. Tae Pyung was born with his prophet-like gift, and he can see the final moments before a person passes away. He also gets visions of his own death, and Joon Young is the only person whose death he is unable to see, no matter how hard he tries to lock eyes with her.

4. “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon”
Park Bo Young completed another memorable role as Do Bong Soon, a woman with mighty physical abilities that she uses in her job as a bodyguard for Ahn Min Hyuk (played by Park Hyung Sik), a gaming company CEO who keeps receiving threats. Do Bong Soon’s super strength is hereditary. Albeit practical in many situations, it comes with a condition: to only use it for good. Any use of her powers for personal gain or mischief might cause her to lose them forever.

5. “The Girl Who Sees Smells”
The title says it all: Shin Se Kyung stars as Choi Eun Seol, a girl who sees smells. She loses her parents to a gruesome serial murder and runs for her life, only to be hit by a car and enter a coma. She wakes up six months later to find that her left eye has turned green and that she can now see smells. Basically, the smells manifest themselves in colors and shapes, which makes them traceable.

6. “Tomorrow With You”
Yoo So Joon (Lee Je Hoon) is a successful company CEO who can travel in time when he rides the subway. Stuck between the present and the future, Song Ma Rin (Shin Min Ah) unexpectedly enters his life, and he does everything in his power to turn his life around with her in it. Through So Joon’s time travel ability, viewers can really delve into the intertwined layers of this storyline that goes back and forth until the record is finally set straight.

7. “While You Were Sleeping”
This drama has not one, but three characters sharing the same superpower. Suzy, Lee Jong Suk, and Jung Hae In as Nam Hong Joo, Jung Jae Chan, and Han Woo Tak, respectively, are people from different walks of life who can all see the future in their dreams. Being a reporter, a prosecutor, and a police officer, the three characters unite to keep their ominous visions from leaving dreamland.

8. “Another Oh Hae Young”
This popular drama stars Shinhwa’s Eric as Park Do Kyung, a top sound director for a film company. He suddenly starts getting premonitions, and that’s when he finds himself involved with two women who share the same name Oh Hae Young and also work at the same company, but have completely opposite lives. With one Oh Hae Young being his ex and the other one being his new love interest, Do Kyung keeps getting visions of the future, which leaves him puzzled.

9. “Master’s Sun”
If it isn’t one of the most famous dramas and superpowers to feature on our small screens! Gong Hyo Jin plays the role of Tae Gong Sil, a woman who can see dead people. Her cursed gift makes every passing ghost seek her help to get closure and move on to the afterlife. This uncontrollable power causes her great trauma until she crosses paths with the arrogant CEO Joo Joong Won, played by So Ji Sub. Joong Won seems to “deactivate” her gift when he’s close to her, which makes Gong Sil adamant to stay by his side at all times. Surely, it must be painful to be haunted on a daily basis without having the ability to stop it, but Gong Sil has gained more than just a curse lift by meeting Joong Won.
