Girls' Generation's Taeyeon Opens Up About Feelings During COVID-19 Pandemic

Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon spoke candidly about her thoughts and emotions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On August 28, Taeyeon held an Instagram Live broadcast and explained, “I’ve started a live broadcast to talk with those who have been diligently practicing social distancing.”

Emphasizing the importance of social distancing, she said, “COVID-19 has gotten so serious that I think the [current Level 2] social distancing rules have become Level 2.5 distancing. I don’t think we’re at Level 3 yet, but I honestly think we should consider them the same thing.”

She continued, “This [pandemic] isn’t getting any better, and it’s such a serious matter. There are so many people who are sick. Isn’t this affecting our daily lives? I think we’re beginning to fall apart. So I really hope everyone practices social distancing.”

Taeyeon voiced some of her frustrations. “I think that as the COVID-19 pandemic worsens, we have less and less that we can do,” she said. “Isn’t that really annoying?”

Taeyeon also shared that she’s been spending time at home watching dramas and movies, making bracelets, and playing with her dog Zero. She then said, “Honestly, aren’t we all the same? We practice social distancing, we’re bored at home, we can feel lethargic, and we miss being with people. In a world that is already lonely without the COVID-19 pandemic, now we have to socially distance.”

Taeyeon admitted that she’s upset that she can’t meet up with her fans as often. She added, “People may think that staying at home is nice for me since I’m a homebody, but above all, I’m a singer, so I also want to sing and perform at concerts.”

She continued, “Once I think the pandemic is starting to go away, it just gets worse. It’s true that I’m starting to get exhausted.”

Taeyeon, whose Singapore concert in February was canceled due to COVID-19, spoke about how the pandemic is affecting her career. “I think working people, not just me, are feeling a sense of loss and emptiness,” she said. “I feel like I’ve lost my job now that I can’t perform. I really almost started crying just now. I’ll be waiting for the day I can meet everyone again.”

Although she is not performing, Taeyeon was recently confirmed to sing an OST for the SBS drama “Do You Like Brahms?” along with EXO‘s Chen, Heize, and more.
