BTS' Suga Talks About His Decision To Get Shoulder Surgery And His Recovery Process

On November 21, BTSSuga held a V Live broadcast to update fans on his recovery from his shoulder surgery.

Suga said, “It’s gotten a lot better. It almost doesn’t hurt at all now and the pain has gone down a lot. The first three days after surgery were really painful. I couldn’t sleep well. I’m sleeping well now and there are no big problems.” He added that he is currently studying English and working on music.

He also talked about how he made the decision to get shoulder surgery. He said, “At first, I thought it was just the aftereffect of the accident. But as time went on, it kept getting worse. I didn’t want to get surgery, but there was a moment when I decided on it. I was filming a commercial and I couldn’t hold the 500 mL (about 17 fluid ounces) can of cider in my left hand. It hurt too much. I thought, ‘I can’t continue to live like this.’ I exercised a lot starting at the beginning of last year. My shoulder was so bad that I tried Pilates and various other exercise treatments. It would be fine when I didn’t have concerts, but it would get worse when I did. I thought a lot about it before making the decision [to get surgery].”

He was asked about what he found hardest about his recovery period and he said, “The days are so long. I think that people have to work. I usually have scheduled activities every day. Now I wake up and wonder what I should do and how I should spend the day so that it feels worthwhile. I think about things like this.”

About BTS’s new album, “BE,” he said, “Rather than songs with a lot of impact, we chose quieter songs that you can listen to for a long time.” He added, “I’ll recover quickly and it’s not something to be worried about. Please show a lot of love to ‘BE’ and I’ll be back soon.”

BTS dropped their new album, “BE,” and title track “Life Goes On,” on November 20 at 2 p.m. KST. Suga made a surprise appearance during BTS’s comeback live broadcast where he reassured fans that his recovery was going well.
