Han Ye Ri Shares How Seeing Youn Yuh Jung And Glenn Close At The Oscars Inspired Her As An Actress

On September 19, actress Han Ye Ri appeared as a guest panelist on SBS’s “My Little Old Boy.”

During the show, Han Ye Ri talked about her experience at the Academy Awards. She said, “Even when I went, it didn’t feel real. It felt like a really strange thing had happened to my life. I even thought, ‘What on earth is this?'”

She continued, “I saw Youn Yuh Jung and actress Glenn Close standing together and I suddenly felt emotional. It made me think, ‘I could one day be like that.’ To be honest, I thought that actresses tended to have short careers, but it occurred to me that as long as I kept going, I could get a chance like that one day.”

Youn Yuh Jung and Han Ye Ri starred together in “Minari,” a Korean-American film about an immigrant family. Youn Yuh Jung made history at the 93rd Academy Awards by becoming the first Korean actress to win an Oscar when she won Best Supporting Actress for her role in that film.

Han Ye Ri was also asked about looking younger than her age. “Those who are older than me think that I’m really young and talk to me like I’m a child,” she said, laughing. “They treat me like a baby. But then people tell me that I’ll age really suddenly one day.”

About her experience in “Minari,” she said, “I thought a lot about my aunts, my mother, my grandmother. In the previous generation, when a woman got married, she would be expected to go into a new house and figure out everything on her own. I thought about that a lot while preparing for the role.”

Han Ye Ri will star next in the upcoming drama “Hometown,” which premieres on September 22.
