13 Of The Most Unforgettable K-Drama Bromances

Bromances are one of the elements that can make a K-drama more enjoyable to watch, bringing lots of extra joy to viewers! We have had our fair share of memorable K-drama bromances.

Here are just some of many that we will never forget (in no particular order):

1. “Descendants of the Sun

In “Descendants of the Sun,” Song Joong Ki stars as Yoo Shi Jin alongside Song Hye Kyo as Kang Mo Yeon. Yoo Shi Jin is an army captain who falls head over heels for Dr. Kang. They both embark on a whirlwind of a romance despite their different backgrounds. Although they want to be with each other, Yoo Shi Jin’s job consistently puts his life at risk, which is difficult for Mo Yeon to handle.

Besides this main lead romance between Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, another highlight of this drama is seeing Yoo Shi Jin and Seo Dae Young (Jin Goo) bicker and banter. The two comrades ae always together poking fun at each other, but at the end of the day, they always have each other’s backs. Their banter is hilarious, and they are always so quick to throw the other under the bus especially if it means saving their own neck.

2. “Goblin

Gong Yoo stars as a 900-year-old goblin named Kim Shin who must await his bride in order to no longer be immortal. He is ready to cross over and leave the earth. However, when he meets the cheerful and adorable Ji Eun Tak (Kim Go Eun), he finds her annoying but also sees her charm. The two somehow find themselves living together along with the Grim Reaper, who is played by Lee Dong Wook.

When you think of K-drama bromances, “Goblin” is one of the very first that comes to mind. How can we forget the Goblin and Grim Reaper who can’t stand to be around each other yet live in the same house? They are at each other’s throats constantly (quite literally), but when it comes down to needing a helping hand, the other won’t hesitate. They are epically bromantic.

3. “Don’t Dare To Dream” (“Jealousy Incarnate”)

Jung Won (Go Kyung Pyo) and Hwa Shin (Jo Jung Suk) are the bestest of friends but have the unfortunate tendency to fall for the same girl. This theory is put to the test when Jung Won ends up falling in love with Pyo Na Ri. Initially, it seems as though Hwa Shin isn’t interested in Na Ri, but when he sees how they are together and how Na Ri is with Jung Won, Hwa Shin slowly becomes interested.

When it comes to bromance, Hwa Shin and Jung Won take the cake. They even go to the extent of almost sharing the same girlfriend at one point in the series. They spend almost all their free time with each other and can tell what the other is feeling or thinking just with a simple glance. They are almost like brothers, which is what makes this whole love triangle that much more difficult. Despite this, they are willing to do anything for each other; they can’t seem to hate each other!

4. “True Beauty

Lim Ju Gyeong (Moon Ga Young) is a high school student who has been bullied for not being the most attractive and popular girl in school. She decides to take it upon herself to learn how to do makeup by watching videos online. She gets the opportunity to transfer to another school and gets caught in the middle of a heart-wrenching love triangle between Lee Su Ho (Cha Eun Woo) and Han Seo Jun (Hwang In Yeop).

Seo Jun and Su Ho were always best friends until a misunderstanding tore them apart. After falling in love with the same girl, they start to understand each other, and their past misunderstanding gets resolved. The two are able to put aside their differences and are able to give each other advice. Despite Seo Jun losing the girl of his dreams to his best friend, he still loves Su Ho and won’t let anything get in the way of their friendship.

5. “Love In The Moonlight

Hong Ra On (Kim Yoo Jung) is a eunuch for Crown Prince Lee Young (Park Bo Gum). Lee Young is completely unaware of the fact that one of his eunuchs, who are all supposed to be male, is a female. He starts to notice Ra On and is drawn to her, which leads him to take a lot of risks and make a lot of sacrifices in order to be with her.

The loyal palace guard Kim Byung Yeon (Kwak Do Yeon) is someone who is reliable and would sacrifice his life to protect the crown prince. Byung Yeon’s loyalty for Lee Young is so steadfast and constant, which makes their relationship that much more deeper and special. The two had a lot of laughs and chemistry behind the scenes too, which only makes this bromance that much more believable!

6. “Reply 1988

In “Reply 1988,” there is a love triangle involving Sung Duk Sun (Hyeri), Kim Jung Hwan (Ryu Jun Yeol), and Choi Taek (Park Bo Gum). The three are best friends and have spent their entire lives growing up with each other. The love is definitely one of the memorable aspects of this series, but what is incredibly touching is the friendship and love shared between Jung Hwan and Choi Taek.

“Reply 1988” has a lot of bromances within the squad of friends, but the two characters that seem to really touch our hearts bromantically are Choi Taek and Jung Hwan. The two are childhood friends, and Jung Hwan has always had a soft spot for Taek; he always looks after him like an older brother and sticks up for him. There is a deep sense of respect and love between these two that we will never forget.

7. “Prison Playbook”

“Prison Playbook” stars Park Hae Soo as Kim Je Hyuk, Jung Kyung Ho as Lee Joon Ho, and Krystal as Kim Ji Ho. Je Hyuk is a famous baseball player who beats up a man who was abusing his little sister. He gets sentenced to prison despite what the other man did, and the series delves into his prison life and the people he meets. Jung Kyung Ho’s character comes into play as he is a friend of Je Hyuk and also happens to work at the same prison that Je Hyuk is locked up in.

It’s a pit of hopelessness when Je Hyuk gets to jail. It’s like a long path of despair and loneliness that Je Hyuk has to endure while waiting out for his sentencing, and the only silver lining in this whole situation is having Joon Ho as a guard in the prison. The two are childhood friends and have some precious memories they have shared together growing up. The relationship and loyalty that these two have for each other are so uplifting.

8. “Oh My Venus

Kim Young Ho (So Ji Sub) is a personal trainer who meets a lawyer by the name of Kang Joo Eun (Shin Min Ah). The two form an unlikely relationship as Young Ho becomes her personal trainer. Joo Eun is striving to lose a lot of weight and to improve her overall health, which Young Ho is determined to do. The two get to know each other very well and begin to realize their feelings for each other. In this process, Joo Eun also gets close to a couple of Young Ho’s closest friends.

Sung Hoon plays Jang Joon Sung, a supporting role in the series. What makes his role so significant is how Young Ho basically saves him from the pits of despair. When Joon Sung was getting into fights and hitting rock bottom, Young Ho rescued him, gave him a helping hand, and got him back on his feet. Joon Sung owed Young Ho his life, and seeing him so grateful throughout the series is so moving. Disclaimer: It is also very much adorable seeing Henry involved in this cute squad.

9. “Man To Man”

Park Hae Jin plays Kim Sul Woo, a well-seasoned agent who is hired by an intelligence agency to go undercover as a bodyguard for the famous actor Yeo Woon Kwang (Park Sung Woong). There are villains in this drama who are linked to a congressman that investigators are hoping to catch and that Sul Woo must protect Woon Kwang from.

Woon Kwang is a bit of a diva. He likes things a certain way and can be very sarcastic. His bodyguard Sul Woo is the complete opposite. He’s cold, stoic, and does not care much for jokes. So when these two are forced to stick to each other all throughout the day, it becomes hilarious to watch, especially with how annoyed Sul Woo gets with Woon Kwang! Despite the bickering, the two share a deep bond that is rooted in a lot of love.

10. “Good Manager

Kim Sung Ryong (Namgoong Min) has a bit of a troubled past. He used to work with gangsters but was able to get away and get a job in the accounting department of a company. With ill intentions at first, he seems to butt heads with Seo Yul (Lee Jun Ho), a prosecutor who becomes the director for finance.

Just when you think these two are going to really hate each other, their hate develops very subtly into an unbreakable bond that has stood the test of time. Somehow, Seo Yul and Sung Ryong make their way into our hearts, and they become the stars of the series. How can we forget when the pair danced to TWICE’s “TT”? The best couple award that year at the 2017 KBS Drama Awards was definitely well deserved!

11. “The King: Eternal Monarch”

In “The King: Eternal Monarch,” Lee Min Ho stars as Lee Gon, the leader of a parallel world where a country like Korea also exists. He tries to find a mysterious girl named Jung Tae Eul (Kim Go Eun), who he believes he is destined to be with. After he accidentally runs into the parallel world while riding his horse in the forest, he meets Jung Tae Eul. The two embark on a passionate romance that is constantly tested.

The love between Tae Eul and Lee Gon transcends space and time, but the connection shared between Lee Gon and his bodyguard Jo Young (Woo Do Hwan) is very unforgettable. Jo Young’s strict and stoic demeanor is often broken when he engages in good humored banter with Lee Gon. Their loyalty and connection to each other spans back to when they were children, which only makes this relationship that much more emotionally touching.

12. “Wok Of Love

Seo Poong (Junho) is a talented chef who gets fired from his high-end cooking gig at a hotel. He ends up working at a Chinese restaurant right across the street. The restaurant has no customers and is nearing bankruptcy, but Seo Poong takes it upon himself to turn it into a successful restaurant. He is hired by Doo Chil Seong (Jang Hyuk) and becomes the manager.

The heart of this series lies between Seo Poong and Chil Seong. Despite not having known each other for that long, Chil Seong trusts Seo Poong and gives him the opportunity to make his dreams come true. The two develop a strong bond with each other, which is put to the test when they both end up falling in love with the same woman. Despite this messy love triangle, the two are still loyal to each other.

Go Nam Soon (Lee Jong Suk) and Park Heung Soo (Kim Woo Bin) are two teenage boys who have to go through the wrath of high school drama. They deal with the stress of getting good grades, bullying, maintaining a good reputation, and the peer pressure of falling into the bad crowd. Nam Soon is elected class president but finds himself dealing with a lot of stress from particular students in the school.

“School 2013” is a series that deals with a lot of real-life issues that high school students in Korea face on the regular. The bromance between Nam Soon and Heung Soo cannot be overlooked as their chemistry and relationship with each other are very emotional and comforting to watch. Their deep-rooted anger and being able to put those feelings aside to become friends again is a friendship that we can all get behind.
