Bae In Hyuk Talks About Playing A Cheerleader In New Drama With Han Ji Hyun

SBS’s upcoming drama “Cheer Up” has released its first stills of Bae In Hyuk in his starring role!

“Cheer Up” is a new campus mystery rom-com about a college cheer squad whose glory days are long gone and is now on the verge of falling apart. Han Ji Hyun will star as Do Hae Yi, a rookie member of Yonhee University’s cheer squad Theia, who has a cheerful personality despite facing difficult circumstances at home.

Bae In Hyuk will star as Theia’s passionate captain Park Jung Woo, who is a firm stickler for the rules and is therefore often misunderstood as being inflexible and condescending. However, he is actually an innocent romantic at heart, and he is willing to put everything on the line to protect his squad.

Describing his character, Bae In Hyuk remarked, “As the captain of the cheer squad Theia, Park Jung Woo feels a strong sense of responsibility, and he’s a character with perfectionist tendencies. He might come off as an ‘old fart’ who does everything by the book, but he’s actually someone with a lot of shortcomings and a clumsy side. I think this unexpected twist to his personality might be part of his charm.”

The actor also revealed that he worked hard behind the scenes and practiced tirelessly in order to make a convincing cheerleader on screen.

“I took on the new challenge of cheerleading for ‘Cheer Up,'” said Bae In Hyuk. “To be honest, I’m not good at dancing, so it wasn’t an easy challenge for me. But I poured my blood, sweat, and tears into practicing so that I wouldn’t seem too awkward in viewers’ eyes—and also to capture the passion of the real-life squad—so I hope you’ll look kindly upon [my performance].”

Finally, Bae In Hyuk expressed confidence in his upcoming drama and its story, commenting, “I think we’ll be able to present you with subject matter that hasn’t been seen much [on Korean TV] and a story that has a wide variety of charms. I hope that it will be a drama that helps viewers ‘cheer up’ with every episode. Please give it lots of love and interest.”

“Cheer Up” will premiere on October 3 at 10 p.m. KST. Check out the latest teaser for the drama here!
