Nam Tae Hyun And His Agency Apologize For Drunk Driving Incident + Clarify Details

Nam Tae Hyun and his agency have released statements of apology following the artist’s drunk driving incident.

On March 8, the Seoul Gangnam Police Station announced that Nam Tae Hyun was under investigation for drunk driving after opening his car door while parked on the roadside and hitting a taxi that was passing by, breaking the taxi’s side mirror. Afterwards, he drove about 20 meters (approximately 66 feet).

When the police arrived at the scene of the accident, Nam Tae Hyun’s blood alcohol content was found to be 0.114 percent, a level high enough for his driver’s license to be revoked (0.08 percent or higher). Although Nam Tae Hyun was booked on the spot, the police chose to question him when he was less intoxicated.

On March 10, Nam Tae Hyun’s agency NoName Music shared the following statement to explain the scenario in detail and apologize:

Hello, this is Nam Tae Hyun’s agency NoName Music.
First, we apologize for the delay in our official statement as we confirmed the facts. We sincerely apologize for causing concern because of our agency artist Nam Tae Hyun’s mistake.

After wrapping up a gathering with his acquaintances in Gangnam at around 3:30 a.m. on March 8, 2023, Nam Tae Hyun first moved his car about five meters (approximately 16 feet) as it was blocking the car of his acquaintances, who were waiting for their designated driver to depart. After parking his car again, he was going to wait for the designated driver he called. In this process, while Nam Tae Hyun was opening the door of his parked car, the accident occurred where Nam Tae Hyun’s car hit the side mirror of a taxi driving by. Immediately after the collision, Nam Tae Hyun checked on the taxi driver and promised sufficient compensation for any damages incurred. However, contrary to what some news outlets reported, Nam Tae Hyun did not drive about 20 meters following the collision with the taxi, but moved up about five meters and parked again. Despite being under the influence, there is no excuse for making such a rash judgement in the spur of the moment.

Nam Tae Hyun is currently deeply reflecting on his mistake. After, he will participate in the police investigation in good faith and receive the punishment for his mistake. We deeply apologize to everyone.

We also feel responsible that an incident like this occurred. We will do our best to resolve this situation and be more careful with the management of our agency artists in the future to work towards making sure something like this never happens again. Once again, we apologize for causing concern to everyone.

Along with the agency’s statement, Nam Tae Hyun personally took to Instagram to share a handwritten letter and apologize for the incident.

There is no excuse for this mistake that occurred due to my rash judgement and I feel so ashamed.
Regarding this incident, I will receive the punishments for my mistakes and I will reflect, repent, and repent again. I will reflect deeply so that this kind of situation does not happen again in the future. I’m sorry.”
