Watch: Shin Ye Eun, Ryeoun, Kang Hoon, And More Get Tied Up In The King’s Dangerous Search In Teaser For “The Secret Romantic Guesthouse”
With just a few days left until the premiere, “The Secret Romantic Guesthouse” has shared a new highlight teaser!
Based on the hit web novel of the same name, SBS’s “The Secret Romantic Guesthouse” is a mystery romance about an unconventional boarding house and three students who stay there as lodgers. Shin Ye Eun will star as Yoon Dan Oh, the owner of boarding house Yihwawon, while Ryeoun, Kang Hoon, and Jung Gun Joo will play three “flower scholars” who rent rooms—and are each hiding their own secrets.
The latest preview begins with an eerie vibe as someone asks, “Do you know the story? In Jungchon, they say there’s an inn owner who’s possessed by ghosts. As Kim Si Yeol (Kang Hoon) confidently walks up to the spooky building, someone from behind startles him with a sudden hand on his shoulder.
Later, Yoon Dan Oh excitedly introduces her boarding house Yihwawon, which is visited primarily by scholars studying for their exams. While promoting her boarding house on the street, Yoon Dan Oh is introduced to scholars Kang San (Ryeoun) and Kim Si Yeol, who boast polar opposite personalities. At Yihwawon, they’re also joined by Jung Yoo Ha (Jung Gun Joo) and Yuk Yuk Ho (In Gyo Jin), who is the oldest boarding student. Referring to the handsome group at Yihwawon, someone happily comments, “I was wondering where all the light went, but it was all gathered there.”
Although Yoon Dan Oh is pleased with her sudden influx of boarders, their unique personalities immediately begin to confuse her. The strict Kang San sternly instructs Yoon Dan Oh to get out, stating that invasion of personal space is his biggest pet peeve, while her chores are interrupted by the sweet Jung Yoo Ha. Later, she must firmly enforce the deep-rooted traditions of Yihwawon to Kim Si Yeol, explaining that loans are strictly forbidden.
As the four scholars question why Yoon Dan Oh, the daughter of a wealthy and noble family, runs a guesthouse, Yuk Yuk Ho suggests, “In order to live, I guess she had no choice. The only thing her father left behind was a house.”
When Yoon Dan Oh receives the shocking news that she is in debt, she pays a visit to Hwa Ryung (Han Chae Ah), a gisaeng (a courtesan trained in music and the arts) who runs Hanyang’s largest guesthouse Buyeonggak. Yoon Dan Oh asks, “Who loaned you such a large sum of money?” Hwa Ryung casually tells her it was Jang Tae Hwa (Oh Man Seok), the owner of Buyeonggak. She then tells Yoon Dan Oh, “That’s why you should obediently let go of Yihwawon.”
Joseon’s King Lee Chang (Hyun Woo) catches wind that the missing Lee Seol is now in Hanyang and is told that he is likely hiding amongst scholars who have flocked into the city for their upcoming exam. Lee Chang’s army sets out to find Lee Seol and Yihwawon ends up as the final house that they must search.
Eventually, Yoon Dan Oh strikes up a deal with Jang Tae Hwa as she promises to find Lee Seol, the deposed crown prince who’s been missing for over a decade. As she gets deeper into her search, the three flower scholars take note of how she’s changed and start asking questions about what she’s up to.
Yoon Dan Oh begins bonding with Kang San and Kim Si Yeol, who both start to show growing interest in Yihwawon’s owner. At the same time, the situation grows grim at the palace as Lee Chang mercilessly murders anyone who questions his authority.
Yoon Dan Oh grows increasingly fearful as she asks, “Why are you telling me not to find Ok Jin? Why do I have to protect Yihwawon?” Someone warns Yoon Dan Oh, “Their sword could stab your heart.”
Lee Chang quickly realizes that Lee Seol has been sending warnings that he will return soon to take the King’s position, while another person predicts, “The person you’re looking for will swallow you whole.”
Noh Seong Gil (Lee Joon Hyuk) asks a scholar, “Does Yoon Dan Oh have no idea who you are? I guess we’ll have to kill her.” While Kim Si Yeol expresses his hope that no one gets hurt and others urge her to stop, Yoon Dan Oh remains firm in her decision to find Lee Seol and protect Yihwawon.
