Gallup Korea Poll Shows 30 Percent of Koreans Think PSY's

Recently the research agency Gallup Korea conducted a poll on one of South Korea’s hottest singers, PSY.  It surveyed 1005 people over 19 years of age on April 29-30 and May 2-3. It asked several questions regarding PSY’s “Gentleman” music video, yielding interesting results. The results was obtained through a random sampling of a mobile phone random digit dialing sampling frame with ±3.1% sampling error, confidence level of 95%, and reply efficiency of 17%.

The first question asked how many people watched the “Gentleman” music video and the result was 74%.

According to the results of the poll, the music video reached people of all generations with 56% of people over 60 years of age having watched it at least once. As the age range decreased, a larger percent watched the music video with 89% of people in their 20s having watch the music video.

Out of the 740 people who said they watched the music video, 63% said they thought the music video was funny while 30% did not. Seven percent did not answer or replied that they didn’t know.

Also, 58% of females thought the music video was funny while 68% of males said the same. Seventy percent of people in their 20s said the video was funny while 68% percent of people in their 30s said the same.

Notably, 30% of the 740 people who watched the video agreed with KBS’ decision that it was unsuitable to be broadcast on television. Fifty-four percent said they disagreed. Sixteen percent did not answer or did not know. Thirty-two percent of the 265 people who did not watch the music video agreed with KBS’ decision while 26% said they disagreed. KBS’ decision was due to scenes of the destruction of public property in the music video.

Make your own voice heard. Broadly speaking, do you think PSY’s music video is inappropriate? Why?
