Woman Crush Wednesday: Lee Min Jung's Gil Da Ran in

Ah… “Big.” I remember it well. Despite its big plot disaster in the end, I had anticipated the new episodes each week while hoping the downward spiral of the drama would redeem itself, but alas, it never happened. What did happen; however, was a whole lot of chemistry between Lee Min Jung‘s Gil Da Ran and Gong Yoo‘s Kang Kyung Joon.

Only half of the drama’s sole saving grace, Gil Da Ran left me with fond memories of her bright personality and warm love story with Kang Kyung Joon, the other half. Here’s five reasons why Gil Da Ran stole my heart and became totally crushable. (Spoilers ahead!)

1. Gil Da Ran handles responsibilities well.

She’s the kind of woman who will chug down a glass of beer just to prevent a minor from getting a taste of it and the kind of woman who’ll look out for his well being by walking him home after he’s had a few sips. She’s the one who takes the brunt of the consequences when an upcoming marriage is called off and does her best to protect the Kang Kyung Joon in Seo Yoon Jae’s body.

2. She’s bright and bubbly.

Most of the time, Gil Da Ran is seen walking around with a bright smile on her face. She’s generally a really positive thinker with her head occasionally in the clouds, but that’s okay because she never fails to infect others with her bubbly personality. I loved watching her smile and laugh, even if she often had “hearts shooting out of her eyes.” Hehe.

3. She defends her love – no matter what.

Regardless of whether it was Seo Yoon Jae or Kang Kyung Joon, Gil Da Ran goes all out in defending and protecting the one she loves. Even when things seemed hopeless as Gil Da Ran uncovered a lot about Yoon Jae that she didn’t know about, she didn’t allow it to affect the love she held for him. When Kang Kyung Joon spoke negatively about him, Gil Da Ran continued to defend him. Alternatively, when she realized that she had fallen in love with Kang Kyung Joon, she ultimately decided to face it by boldly informing her parents. Surprising Kang Kyung Joon, Gil Da Ran dealt with the backlash with a strong attitude that was really admirable.

4. She fights childish antics with… childish antics.

How refreshing! Gil Da Ran might be an adult, but she definitely still has her kid side, evident in the way she retaliates Kang Kyung Joon’s immaturity with her own. That doesn’t mean both of them are incapable of being mature adults though, because they can! It’s just that they know how to let loose and live as well. They are far from uptight and it’s really endearing to watch the two bicker because you know there’s an underlying love for each other that’s irreplaceable.

5. Gil Da Ran is animated and imaginative.

I love how she can be so over dramatic at times but still retain such innocence and purity. When things don’t go her way and she’s confused about her emotions, she acts like she’s in a sageuk drama and begins ironing clothes or sewing and doing housework. It’s really amusing and shows just how free-spirited she is. Her imagination is really something!
