6 Talented Taiwanese Actors You Need To Know

There are many ways to discover new dramas, but I must admit I often pick out new shows purely based on whom they star. If you’re anything like me, some male star power totally has the power to lure you in to watch a new drama. Here are some of Taiwan’s most recognized actors to get you started on Taiwanese dramas!

One of Taiwan’s most bankable actors, Aaron Yan is frequently the subject of dating rumors, usually with whomever he happens to be costarring with. Short of an official confirmation, the only thing this suggests is that his onscreen romances are very convincing.

What to watch: Aaron Yan most recently headlined “Refresh Man” with Joanne Tseng, although my favorite from him is the romantic comedy “Fall in Love With Me”.

Kingone Wang may not boast a typical pretty-boy face, but he has a proven ability to excel in unique roles, be they emotionally battered or severely disabled.

What to watch: I am a huge fan of Kingone Wang and would recommend almost every drama of his if I could! But a recent favorite of mine has to be “Someone Like You,” in which he played a depressed visually impaired romantic.

Lin Yo Wei started out as a boyband member and dabbled in singing and hosting before establishing himself as an actor. He may be 38 years old, but his boyish charms and warm persona ensure that he remains a favorite among drama producers and fans.

What to watch: Lin Yo Wei is known for playing characters that are good at taking care of others, including his latest role as a puzzle shop owner romancing a younger woman in “Better Man.”

What to watch: “Marry Me or Not” may be about two girls who fall out in college and reconnect in adulthood, but Roy Chiu stole the show with his portrayal of an emotional lawyer caught between his sister and first love, and between parents who refuse to communicate.

Blue Lan kicked off his career with a tiny yet memorable character in the defining Taiwanese idol drama “Meteor Garden.” Despite his tough appearance, he does incredibly well in emotional scenes, and never fails to bring alive the most bittersweet of every love story.

What to watch: Blue Lan has made impressive performances in emotive roles such as in “I Do?” and most recently “Apple in Your Eye,” for which he clinched Best Actor at the 2015 Golden Bell Awards.

The youngest of this list, Lego Li seems to have a keen eye for meaningful scripts in addition to memorable roles. His dramas have performed consistently well over the last few years.

What to watch: Although Lego Li’s breakthrough was said to be the 2013 throwback series “In a Good Way,” I much preferred his character in “Love Cuisine,” in which he played a Michelin-starred chef-turned-culinary teacher.
