Weekly Music Chart 2007 - April week 4

No. 1 song: SG Wannabe's "아리랑" (Arirang) makes a big jump from No. 24 to No. 1 on its 2nd week on the chart, denying Ivy's "유혹의 소나타" (Temptation of Sonata) for a 6th week at the top. Arirang becomes only the 3rd song on this chart to move from outside of the top 20 straight to No. 1. Brian's "가지마" (Don't Go) accomplished it earlier this year, and Tei's "사랑은하나다" (Love Is…The One) in 2005 was the other song. The big jump may be a surprise to many, but reaching No. 1 certainly is not a surprise to SG Wannabe, who is probably the top male group in Korea now. Both their songs and their album sales are always among the top.

Biggest Mover of the week: SG Wannabe's "아리랑" (Arirang) also takes this honor with a 23 spots jump to the top.

Hot shot debut: Suh Young Eun's "완소그대" (Completely Precious You) is our highest debut at No. 18 this week. This song is coming from Suh Young Eun's recently released 7th album. Suh Young Eun is one of the most underrated female singers in Korea. Her songs are always in the top 20, and her album sales are also decent. But not many fans recognize her because she rarely appears on gayo shows. This time, she comes back with a mid-tempo happier song instead of her usual emotional ballads. This song reminds me of "Angel" from her 4th album 3 years ago.

New songs: We have 8 new songs this week.

Songs to watch out:

3. Lee Hyori – 톡톡톡 (Toc Toc Toc) – This song was on its way out of the top 20 last week, but suddenly made a big 15 spots jump to No. 3 this week. This song was No. 1 on Chartkorea last week, after falling out of that chart's top 20 the previous week. That explains the big fluctations in 2 weeks for this song.

4. Chae Yeon – My Love – Chae Yeon finally scored her first top 5 hit in this chart. "My Love" moved up 8 spots to No. 4 this week. This song should have a better prospect to challange the top spot than "Toc Toc Toc".

6. Epik High – Love Love Love – After spending a few weeks in the lower half of the top 20, this song finally makes a move into the top 10. It is ranked high on several of the chart sources so this song is looking to crack into the top 5 next week.

27. Kil Gun – 흔들어봐 (Shake It) – Kil Gun finally appears on our chart for the first time with this dance hit. Kil Gun is formerly the choeographer for Lee Hyori. She is well known as one of the best dancers in k-pop. This song features MC Typhoon. It combines Latin funk with hip-hop melody and lyrics that anyone can easily sing along to.

32. Yoon Gun – 사랑으로 빚진 날들 (The Days Of Being In Debt Because Of Love) – Former Brown Eyes member quietly released his 3rd album. We probably won't see Yoon Gun performing this song. He is winning fans support with his good music, just like Brown Eyes.

36. Soul Town – My Lady – A collaboration between 2 "old school" groups: Soild and Uptown. This song mixed Solid's R&B sounds with Uptown's hip-hop styles. Fans of both groups should definitely check it out.

39. Sei – 잘못했나요 (Is it a mistake?) – Sei is another highly anticipated new female ballad singer making her debut this year. This song is an emotional ballad that should appeal to fans. Sei is starting to promote this song on gayo shows, which should help its popularity.

50. Dave & Tessavier – 여자라서 그래요 (Because I am a Woman) – New co-ed group brings a fresh stream to k-pop with their folk style ballads. This song is a solo by female member Tessavier, unlike the other hit song "손바닥" that we heard from them which is a duet. This sad ballad was made for Tessavier's father, who is struggling in the last stage of stomach cancer. It resonates deeply about loving only one man and feeling inevitably sad, about a wishful heart and about a heart that loves. I highly recommend this song and this group.
