JYJ Releases Final Statement on KBS Controversy

JYJ’s management agency, C-JeS Entertainment, released a final statement on July 22nd regarding the recent controversy surrounding JYJ and their sudden withdrawal from the special KBS live show, “Jeju New Seven Wonders of Nature.”

First making an apology to the fans for causing so much distress, Baek Chang Joo, CEO of C-JeS, continued, “Illegal and ridiculous claims aimed at hindering JYJ’s activities continue to arise. Being hesitant whenever this type of situation happens would not be beneficial to the artist, and so we decided to release this final statement.”

Describing JYJ as “a flower blossoming in the bitter cold winter,” CEO Baek went on to list how successful the group has been despite all the outside pressure and obstacles they faced. “JYJ released a worldwide album produced by world-renown artists, and was even featured in the Billboard magazine as one of the hottest albums. Since the release of their album, JYJ has done approximately 20 worldwide showcases and concerts, attracting more than 100,000 fans from home and abroad. We are proud to say we are leading the Hallyu movement and for proving ourselves a global artist,” the CEO said.

He continued, “However, unfortunately, sudden cancelations of JYJ’s TV appearances continue to happen, just like this time.”

In order to prevent another similar incident from occurring, he said C-JeS Entertainment is doing its best to allow JYJ to “walk the path they desire.” “We already filed a complaint with the Fair Trade Commission regarding this case, and we are going to take legal action for disrupting JYJ’s individual activities. Also, as proven by the recent court decision that JYJ’s contract with their previous agency was unfair, we will put together all the recent controversies, including the current one, as evidence for future lawsuits.”

But Baek expressed concerns that, even if they win the lawsuit, similar disruptions will continue to arise. “But we (C-JeS), alongside JYJ, will keep moving forward the way we’ve been doing so far. JYJ will continue to bring joy and happiness across the world through their singing and acting.” JYJ’s agency wrapped up the statement by saying the group would continue to promote Jeju Island as honorary ambassadors, and asked for the fans’ continued love and support.

Originally cast as a special guest to the KBS live show on July 20th, for their role as honorary ambassadors, JYJ was abruptly scratched off the show four days prior to the event. They were later replaced by SNSD and f(x), groups managed by JYJ’s former agency SM Entertainment.
