Kara Breaks 30-Year Oricon Record with "Super Girl"

It’s getting harder and harder to keep track of the amount of records and achievements the ladies of Kara have been breaking and making on Japan’s Oricon chart.

Nevertheless, they continue to astound us each time, as on November 29, the Oricon revealed that Kara’s “Super Girl” (released on the 23rd) had ranked first on the weekly album chart with 275,000 copies sold.

“Kara’s recent album sales record is now the best new record set by a foreign female group in the first week of its release,” officials of Oricon confirmed. The previous “first-week album sales” record was set by SNSD in June with “Girls’ Generation The 1st Japan Album,” which sold 232,000 copies.

This is Kara’s second time topping the weekly Oricon chart since their third single, “Jet Coaster Love.” This means that Kara has had both an album and a single place first week in sales, making them the first foreign girl group to set a new record in 30 years.

In related news, Kara will be attending the NHKKohaku Uta Gassenalongside SNSD and DBSK at year-end.
