Red Velvet's Joy Explains Why Her Father Found Her First Performance Scary

The members of Red Velvet appeared as guests on the July 15 broadcast of “Ask Us Anything.”

During the show, Joy revealed what her father said after watching her debut performance on TV. “He said it was scary because I was smiling so much. He told me not to smile so deliberately,” she shared.

“I’m the eldest daughter in the household, so I didn’t have aegyo and I didn’t smile that much growing up. When I was a student, my nickname was ‘cold city girl,'” she explained.

She then added that she had always practiced smiling during her trainee days and had even decided on the stage name Joy in order to live up to her name.
