Following denials of launching a second season of “SIXTEEN,” new reports are claiming that JYP and Mnet are going to launch a male idol group debut program instead.

An inside source spoke with Ilgan Sports and said, “JYP and Mnet are joining hands to launch a male idol debut project. It’s completely different from ‘SIXTEEN 2’ and it will create a male group instead of a female group.”

It appears as though JYP has many male trainees who are hoping to debut. Some trainees were seen on stage at TWICE’s solo concert in June as well. These trainees are likely to appear on the group debut program.

The report claims that the survival show will air in the latter part of this year. Mnet and JYP are working out the schedule and might start airing the show in fall. However, the group will most likely not debut immediately after the end of the program. The source said, “The broadcast will be later this year but the debut might happen next year. The specifics regarding that have not been determined yet.”

JYP has debuted male idol groups 2PM and GOT7. The agency also debuted their first band DAY6. Having achieved great success with TWICE after “SIXTEEN,” the new male idol group program might be a recipe for success.
