Watch: Eric Nam, Jung Chaeyeon, And KARD Raise Hype For New Friendship And Romance Reality Show

Recent variety programs have been focused on audition, survival, and family oriented themes. However, trends always come full circle. Mnet is bringing couple matching variety shows back with its latest reality show, “My Love My Friend.”

This new program is geared towards examining and delving into the trendy relationship between male and female friends. Eight individuals who share this type of relationship will be going on a trip for three days to discover whether their friendships are really just friendships.

In an interview, Chief Producer Yoon Shin Hye said, “There is a way each member can figure out what the others are thinking throughout the trip. Every night, each member has the opportunity to record a question to somebody of the opposite gender. This causes an interesting atmosphere, because nobody knows what each person asked.”

She continued, “Mnet has many survival shows, but I wanted to work with another aspect of young people’s lives. A lot of songs nowadays are about love, breaking up, and jealousy. When preparing for this show, there were no programs that dealt with this genre.”

Additionally, PD Song Kyung Hyuk said, “The Song-Song couple and the President Moon couple dealt with the idea of males and females being friends in the beginning. This isn’t a new concept. It’s a new label for a love that is popular amongst young people.

Meanwhile, there have been many teasers released for this upcoming variety show.

In one of them, Eric Nam and DIA’s Jung Chaeyeon read a letter asking them whether a male friend can have feelings for his female friend based on their skinship level.

Another teaser starred KARD. Since they are a co-ed group, they were asked various questions about what is okay between male and female friends.

The first episode will be airing on August 8 at 11 p.m. KST!
