Girls' Generation's YoonA Coming Into Her Own As An Actress As She Celebrates 10th Year Of Her Career

Girls’ Generation’s YoonA’s growth as an actress has been steady and strong over the past decade.

The idol and actress is currently starring in the MBC drama “The King Loves” alongside Im Siwan and Hong Jong Hyun. Girls’ Generation celebrated their 10th anniversary last month, but YoonA also has a personal achievement to celebrate as 2017 marks the 10th year of her acting career.

YoonA debuted in a supporting role in the drama “9 End 2 Outs” in 2007. Since then she has grown as an actress in leaps and bounds, jumping to starring roles and even taking part in productions abroad.

She has expanded her talent by playing unique characters across all genres, including rom-com (“Love Rain“), thriller (“The K2“), and now historical in “The King Loves.” She won the award for Most Popular Actress at the 2017 Baeksang Arts Awards for her role in the film “Confidential Assignment” and won awards at end-of-the-year ceremonies for dramas like “The Prime Minister Is Dating” and “Love Rain.”

Even in “The King Loves,” YoonA transcends what could have been a passive character caught between two men into a complex character conflicted between love and survival. Instead of making it obvious who she should choose, her chemistry with both leading actors keeps viewers conflicted about the ending.
