“MIXNINE” PD Reveals What His Original Plans Were For “Produce 101” Season 3
PD Han Dong Chul recently talked about his upcoming audition program being compared to KBS2’s “The Unit.”
During the press conference for “MIXNINE” on September 19, the PD shared his thoughts on his new JTBC show, saying, “‘The format for ‘MIXNINE’ started from Mnet’s channel and is a format that has received a lot of love from the general public. Because the format is popular at the moment, we know that each broadcast channel is preparing something. We don’t really know how the KBS audition program is being prepared so it’s hard to make a comparison.”
PD Han Dong Chul continued, “‘MIXNINE’ is a show that the PDs, including myself, had been working on at CJ E&M. While we were planning for ‘Produce 101,’ we talked a lot about also doing a male version for “Produce 101 Season 2.” Even before planning for the first season, we were first thinking about having both girls and guys appear together for the third season.”
He added, “As I changed companies, I ended up creating the show at YG and broadcasting the show through JTBC. But I had always thought of doing an audition program where both guys and girls appear on the show.”
Meanwhile, “MIXNINE” is an upcoming audition program where YG Entertainment’s CEO Yang Hyun Suk searches to uncover a new star. Han Dong Chul will be heading the project as the PD, and the show is set to air its first episode on October 29 at 4:50 p.m. KST.
