Give A Little Love: 8 Korean Actors Who Need More Appreciation

There are unquestionably a lot of Korean dramas and movies and just as many actors starring in them. But there are quite a few men who, so it seems, are not able to show their full potential due to casting choices – constantly being the second lead, or only acting as supporting cast. The actors on this list managed to gain the attention of viewers despite not even being on screen for a long time. Here are some of the most underrated Korean actors – still waiting for their popularity to skyrocket.

1. Ji Soo

You might know Ji Soo from his roles in “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon,” “Scarlet Heart: Goryeo,” or other dramas and variety shows. That being said, Ji Soo is not exactly unknown and unrecognized, BUT the man needs a first leading role! Someone write a drama and let Ji Soo finally be not the second, but the first male lead!

2. Yoon Park

Just like Ji Soo, Yoon Park has done a lot of work and appeared on several variety shows, but it seems he still doesn’t get enough recognition, mostly acting as the second lead or supporting cast. After seeing him in dramas like “Introvert Boss,” “What Happens to My Family,” and “Please Come Back, Mister,” fans can’t help but want to see Yoon Park more often. You might also want to watch these 13 seconds of adorable Yoon Park dancing to GFRIEND’s “Me Gustas Tu.”

3. Sung Hoon

Sung Hoon started his acting career fairly late (being born in 1983); he was a member of the national swimming team for 14 years before an injury forced him to quit. He had his first acting gig at the age of 28, landing the lead role despite not having any modeling or acting experience. After having roles in dramas like “Oh My Venus,” he just starred in “My Secret Romance,” which is hopefully only the beginning of a long streak of dramas with Sung Hoon as the male lead. If anyone really deserves recognition and admiration, it’s Sung Hoon.

4. Kwak Dong Yeon

Recently Kwak Dong Yeon appeared in a cameo as the unfaithful ex-boyfriend in “Fight My Way” who gets a beating from Choi Ae Ra (Kim Ji Won). That aside, he has an adorable bromance with Park Bo Gum and his other cast mates from “Moonlight Drawn By Clouds.” He even showed up to Park Bo Gum’s fan meeting and the two ended up wearing matching shirts. His skills, genuine character, and handsome appearance should be reason enough to give him more time in the spotlight.

5. Choi Woong

Doesn’t ring a bell? Well, Choi Woong has had roles in some of the biggest dramas of the last few years, including “Descendants Of The Sun,” “Goblin,” and “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo.” Unfortunately, a majority of them were just small roles that gave us only a glimpse of him, but for many viewers that was already enough to want more!

6. Dong Ha

If you are keeping up to date with Korean dramas, you probably know Dong Ha as your favorite serial killer from “Suspicious Partner.” His appeal in the drama gave everyone the chills, showing his incredible acting skills. Thankfully he appeared on several variety shows, proving to the world he’s not so much of a sociopath in real life. More of Dong Ha, please! And maybe a little less serial killing.

7. Lee Tae Hwan

Lee Tae Hwan caught the eye of many viewers as the distractingly handsome bodyguard in “W” and is slowly but surely getting well deserved attention from the public, as he was part of the main cast in “Father I’ll Take Care Of You” and is currently starring in “My Golden Life.” Let’s hope this trend will continue and we’ll see the 5urprise member more frequently.

8. Jung Hae In

Just like many others on this list, Jung Hae In has quite some big drama titles on his resume. He starred in “Goblin,” “Reply 1988,” and won an SBS Drama Award for his part in “Yeah, That’s The Way It Is.” Still, most of those were small roles and the big success is yet to come. We hope his appearance in the highly anticipated drama “While You Were Sleeping” will bring him well-deserved recognition!
