Veteran Actress Kim Bo Ae Passes Away

It has been revealed that veteran actress Kim Bo Ae passed away on the night of October 14 at the age of 80.

Her surviving family members disclosed that Kim Bo Ae had been fighting a brain tumor since December 2016.

After graduating with a theatre degree from Seorabeol Arts University, she went on to debut in the film “Ok Dan Chun” in 1956. She then acted in “Goryeojang” (1963), “Seed Money” (1967), and more.

Popular for her Western-style appearance, the actress was the first cosmetics model in Korea and nicknamed “Korea’s Marilyn Monroe.” She was also famous for her writing skills. She wrote four volumes of poetry and also a collection of essays about the climate of the film industry with her husband Kim Jin Kyu.

Kim Bo Ae created film production company NS21 in 2000 and spearheaded efforts for exchanges and cooperation between North and South Korean films.

After marrying actor Kim Jin Kyu in 1959, the couple had one son and three daughters. Their second daughter Kim Jin Ah and youngest son Kim Jin Geun are actors. Her husband passed away in 1998.
