Writer Kim Eun Sook Opens Up About Viewer Criticisms Regarding Her Female Characters

On October 25, writer Kim Eun Sook and actor Lee Dong Wook made an appearance at the 6th EDaily W Festa (Global Womens’ Forum 2017), which was held at Sebit Island.

When asked about her female characters, Kim Eun Sook answered, “I’m bad with [female characters]. I get a lot of critique that the story gets pulled and centered around the male characters. I’m aware of that aspect.”

She also stated, “Hasn’t the world changed? Nowadays, independent female characters get the spotlight. Even when I debuted, they weren’t falling behind. I try to keep up with the times but the world keeps changing too quickly. I will continue to study and try to change to create stories where both the male and female characters equally share and grow in their love for each other.”

Meanwhile, Kim Eun Sook is known for writing many popular dramas such as “Descendants of the Sun,” “Goblin,” and “Heirs,” and “A Gentleman’s Dignity.”
