Voting for major award shows like MAMA often undergoes major scrutiny from K-pop fans, and this year is no different; there has been an uproar in the online K-pop community due to alleged rigged voting. On November 2, MAMA announced through its official site that they would temporarily be pausing voting and taking action on illegal votes, deleting any illegally submitted votes, blocking IP addresses, and even permanently deleting accounts. However, lack of transparency from Mnet as to where the line is in terms of “illegal voting” and how votes were removed, as well as, among other things, inconsistencies in the performance of Mnet’s voting system, have led to an outpouring of complaints from fans on social networking sites and online communities. Some fans have even put together a joint statement demanding an explanation from MAMA, although Mnet has yet to respond.
