7 Idols That Won Acting Awards In 2017

Many idols dream of pursuing successful careers in both acting and music, but it isn’t always easy to make a smooth transition into another field.

Here are 7 idols who managed to break through those barriers and win acting awards at last week’s 2017 drama award ceremonies!

Suzy

As one of the most successful idol-turned-actresses, Suzy claimed no less than two trophies at the 2017 SBS Drama Awards. The former miss A member took home the Top Excellence in Acting Award for her drama “While You Were Sleeping,” as well as the Best Couple Award with her co-star Lee Jong Suk.

During her acceptance speech, Suzy teared up as she confessed, “I’m still scared whenever I receive an award like this, because I know that I’m lacking in many ways.”

Dasom

Dasom won the Best New Actress Award at the 2017 SBS Drama Awards for her performance as the villain in “Sister Is Alive.”

The former SISTAR member remarked, “This is something that I thought could only happen in my dreams. Standing here in a place that I’d only ever fantasized about, I’m overwhelmed and filled with joy.”

INFINITE’s L

INFINITE member L snagged two prizes at the 2017 MBC Drama Awards for his role in “Ruler: Master of the Mask.” In addition to the Best Fighting Spirit Award, which applauded his successful portrayal of a difficult character, he also won a Popularity Award.

The idol humbly thanked his fellow cast and crew during his acceptance speech, saying, “All the actors and staff members worked hard during filming, not just me. I think that I’m receiving this award on their behalf.”

Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun

Seohyun won the Best New Actress Award at the 2017 MBC Drama Awards for her role in “Bad Thief, Good Thief.”

In her acceptance speech, the Girls’ Generation member expressed her sincere gratitude for the guidance of her co-star Ji Hyun Woo. She said, “I’d like to thank my partner Ji Hyun Woo, who was so understanding and considerate even though I was lacking in every way.”

Han Sun Hwa

Han Sun Hwa won the Female Excellence Award at the 2017 MBC Drama Awards for the miniseries “Radiant Office.”

The former Secret member also won two separate rookie awards for her acting in 2014, claiming both the Best New Actress Award at the MBC Drama Awards and the New Star Award at the SBS Drama Awards.

gugudan’s Kim Sejeong

Kim Sejeong took home the Best New Actress Award at the 2017 KBS Drama Awards for her first lead role in “School 2017.”

The gugudan member remarked, “I’ll try to become an actress that doesn’t mar someone else’s creation by being a part of it.”

2PM’s Junho

Junho snagged two awards at the 2017 KBS Drama Awards for his drama “Chief Kim.” Not only did he win the Excellence Award for his acting, he also amusingly won the Best Couple Award with his co-star Nam Goongmin.

During his acceptance speech, the 2PM member joked, “My heart almost exploded just from seeing my face on the display screen [as a nominee].”

He humbly went on, “I don’t know if my acting was ‘excellent.’ Thank you for looking kindly on [my performance].”
