My Golden Life” continues to impress with rising viewership ratings.

According to statistics from Nielsen Korea on January 15, the episode of KBS 2TV’s “My Golden Life” that aired on January 14 had nationwide ratings of 43.2 percent. This is 0.4 percent higher than the previous episode and resets the drama’s highest ratings record, bringing the drama closer to the 50 percent milestone.

The latest episode had a shocking twist when Seo Tae Soo (played by Chun Ho Jin) left his home and his family found out that his illness was actually a “phantom cancer.” Seo Tae Soo had felt like he was struggling so hard that he wanted to give up on life, and the scriptwriter had expressed that by having the character show symptoms associated with cancer without actually having cancer, similar to the phenomenon of phantom pregnancies. The “phantom cancer” plot twist was met with a mixed response from viewers, and the term quickly rose on search rankings soon after the episode aired.
