One of the most exciting moments when watching a K-drama series is the moment when the two main leads finally lock lips. The anticipation leading up to this big moment can drive viewers to the edge of their seats. Sometimes it’s the moments prior to the actual kiss that are far more exciting and romantic. It can be the look in their eyes, an innocent little touch, or a heart-stopping romantic line; whatever it is, the eager moments right before the kiss scene are moments that almost always have us begging for more.
Here’s a look at 10 K-dramas from 2017 that featured these epic pre-kiss moments:
Suzy and Lee Jong Suk: While You Were Sleeping
In “While You Were Sleeping,” the “first kiss” between Suzy and Lee Jong Suk that we see is a dream and technically not their first kiss. The cinematography for this particular “first” kiss is so romantic and definitely prepares viewers for what is to come. The fact that these two have their “first kiss” in their dream is pretty unique and adds to the effect of wondering when their real first kiss will be. Although the first time they actually do lock lips is not the same setting as the dream, it is adorable and especially endearing as it’s one of the rare times where the female takes the bold initiative.

Nam Ji Hyun and Ji Chang Wook: Suspicious Partner
That moment where No Ji Wook (Ji Chang Wook) grabs the hand of Eun Bong Hee (Nam Ji Hyun) really makes the viewers anticipate their kiss. With Bong Hee expressing her love and Ji Wook being unsure about his feelings for Bong Hee, it’s easy to wonder when they were going to finally get a kiss, which is why the moments leading up to this particular scene is so epic. The affectionate hug and when he closes his eyes just seems to create this sense of longing and need.

Park Bo Young and Park Hyung Sik: Strong Woman Do Bong Soon
This scene has the perfect setting for a romantic first kiss – the beach. Although Ahn Min Hyuk (Park Hyung Sik) had been longingly gazing at Do Bong Soon (Park Bo Young) throughout the entire series, the way he looks at her and asks her to come to him after he draws half of the heart into the sand is not only symbolic, but totally heart-stopping. The way they gaze into each other’s eyes, with the ocean as the backdrop, makes the hype leading up to the kiss scene so romantic.

Kim Ji Won and Park Seo Joon: Fight My Way
The fact that Choi Ae Ra (Kim Ji Won) and Ko Dong Man (Park Seo Joon) are childhood best friends is what really builds the anticipation leading up to this particular kiss scene. The intensity of this scene and how Ae Ra walks away from Dong Man makes it that much more passionate and vulnerable. He realizes in that instant, as Ae Ra is walking away, that he loves her and wants to be with her. It’s intense, romantic, and so desperate in the way he holds her face in his hands.

After some close calls with the kisses, Yoo Eun Ho (Yunho) and Han Ye Ri (Kyung Soo Jin) finally lock lips while on a date. Because they are so close to kissing throughout the previous episodes, it feels like a huge sigh of relief when this moment does come. The cute peck that Ye Ri gives Eun Ho is totally forgotten when he grabs her arm and gives her that long awaited deep kiss.

Sung Hoon and Song Ji Eun: My Secret Romance
Although Cha Jin Wook (Sung Hoon) and Lee Yoo Mi (Song Ji Eun) already have a steamy night of kisses in the beginning episodes, three years of being apart from each other and working by each other’s side make this kiss so much more intense. The manly way Jin Wook turns off the lights and walks away, making Yoo Mi want more, is perfect in building the tension for the moment. It really gets everyone fooled, which is why when he actually does kiss her, it’s totally satisfying.
Seo Hyun Jin and Yang Se Jong: Degree of Love
The sensuality and innocence of the relationship between Lee Hyun Soo (Seo Hyun Jin) and Ohn Jung Sun (Yang Se Jong) in “Degree of Love” makes their pre-kiss moment so sweet but hot at the same time. The words spoken by Jung Sun right before he leans in, “I want to kiss you. You can avoid it if you don’t want to kiss me” is tantalizing. Not to mention, the look of desire and want in both their eyes.

Yeon Woo Jin and Park Hye Soo: My Shy Boss
One of the more hot and steamy pre-kiss moments on the list, Park Hye Soo plays Chae Ro Woon, an employee at the company where Eun Hwan Ki (Yeon Woo Jin) is the CEO. She ends up totally falling for him and although work is important to her, she makes it her priority to win Hwan Ki over, which is what makes this scene so intensely satisfying. The tension that fills the bathroom right before they kiss is what makes it that hot and sexy.
Nam Joo Hyuk and Shin Se Kyung: The Bride of the Water God
The kiss scene in the first episode is Ha Baek (Nam Joo Hyuk) and Yoon So Ah (Shin Se Kyung)’s first technical kiss, but the emotional and love-filled kiss comes a little later on in the series. This heartbreaking scene where Ha Baek is telling So Ah that he has to leave breaks our hearts. Then when he grabs her wrist and pulls her in for that sweet kiss, it heightens the emotions of the moment. And just when we think it’s over, they lean in for an even more emotionally intense kiss. With the added background of the OST, the feelings and love are conveyed perfectly.

Yeon Woo Jin and Park Min Young: Queen For Seven Days
The sweet and heartbreaking love story between Lee Yeok (Yeon Woo Jin) and Shin Chae Kyung (Park Min Young) really made this kiss scene quite epic. The fact that they are reunited after so long also makes the hype leading up to this scene so heightened. The intensity of the wall falling down and Lee Yeok using his body to save Chae Kyung had us on the edge of our seats. The sound of Chae Kyung’s heartbeat, the simplicity of the piano plying in the background, and their gaze into each other’s eyes really sets the mood.
