BTS, Wanna One's Kang Daniel, And Kim Tae Ri Top Forbes Korea's 2030 Power Leaders List

Forbes Korea has released its annual list of 2030 Power Leaders!

Each year, the magazine selects 30 individuals within the ages of 20 to 39 whom it considers rising stars in their respective fields. The list includes five leaders from each of six fields: “Art & Classics,” “Fashion & Beauty,” “IT & Tech,” “Bio & Healthcare,” “Finance & Venture Capital,” and “Entertainment.”

Forbes Korea’s list, which is similar to its American counterpart’s annual “30 Under 30” list, was chosen by six separate panels of industry experts, who conferred with Forbes reporters to determine the final line-up for each field.

Actress Kim Tae Ri topped this year’s list of 2030 Power Leaders in Entertainment. The star shot to fame in 2016, after she beat out 1,500 competitors to claim the title role in Park Chan Wook’s critically-acclaimed film “The Handmaiden.”

Since then, the actress has gone on to receive rave reviews for her performance in the recent box office hit “1987,” and she will be starring opposite Ryu Jun Yeol in the upcoming film adaptation of “Little Forest.” She is also set to star alongside Lee Byung Hun in the upcoming drama “Mr. Sunshine,” written by Kim Eun Sook, the famed screenwriter whose hits include tvN’s “Goblin” and KBS’s “Descendants of the Sun.”

“I didn’t become a star overnight,” commented Kim Tae Ri, who struggled for six years to land a role after deciding to pursue acting during college. “Before I met director Park Chan Wook in 2014, there was a period of six years that no one knows about except for me.”

BTS, the only group on the list, was next. Despite having debuted only four years ago, the idol group has set countless records in the past year. Not only did BTS achieve the highest follower count of any Korean Twitter account in history, the group also recently broke the Guinness World Record for the most Twitter engagements of any account worldwide.

BTS’s “MIC Drop” remix is also currently enjoying its ninth consecutive week on Billboard’s Hot 100, the longest that any K-pop group has managed to stay on the chart.

Wanna One’s Kang Daniel also made the list. Less than a year after his first appearance on Mnet’s “Produce 101 Season 2,” the idol has already risen to the top of Korea’s music industry. The products advertised or endorsed by Kang Daniel and Wanna One have typically sold out, demonstrating the group’s remarkable influence and selling power.

Actor Yang Se Jong was the fourth leader on the list. The rising star had an impressive 2017, blazing through no less than four dramas in the first year of his acting career. After making his debut in SBS’s “Romantic Doctor Kim,” Yang Se Jong went on to appear in SBS’s “Saimdang, Light’s Diary” and OCN’s “Duel.” He also won the Best New Actor Award for his performance in SBS’s “Degree of Love.”

Rounding out the list was the young film director Jeong Ga Young. Although primarily known for directing short films, Jeong Ga Young recently won the Vision Director Award at the 22nd Busan International Film Festival for her full-length feature “Hit the Night.” The film’s star, Park Jong Hwan, also snagged the Actor of the Year Award for his performance.

Congratulations to all of the leaders on the list!
