SM And YG Talk About EXO And CL's Performances For 2018 PyeongChang Olympics Closing Ceremony

A leading feature of the Hallyu wave, K-Pop is once again taking an important role in the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics.

It was recently revealed that EXO and CL would be performing for the closing ceremony. SM Entertainment stated, “As the closing ceremony for the Olympics is an event that many people around the world are paying attention to, we are preparing for the performance with even more care.” YG Entertainment shared, “We are putting even more effort into our preparations for the closing ceremony performance.”

Not only have various K-Pop stars released songs to promote the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics both in and outside of Korea, the sound of an EDM arrangement of famous K-Pop songs reverberated throughout the stadium on February 9 during the athletes’ introduction in the opening ceremony.

During the Olympics, K-Pop stars have participated in various performances as well. For instance, every Saturday in February, the “K-Pop World Festa Headliner Show” is being held, with groups such as BTOB, B1A4, The Boyz, 2PM, Red Velvet, GFRIEND, Super Junior D&E, and more performing. Other stars have shown their support in other ways, such as BIGBANG’s Taeyang “Louder,” which cheers for the success of the Olympics. Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun also participated in a joint performance with a North Korean group at the opening ceremony.

K-Pop has not only permeated through the Olympics ceremonies and performances, but also has impacted the athletes as well. Russian figure skater Evgenia Medvedeva recently revealed herself as a EXO fan, and shared that the group inspired her. On the Medvedeva receiving EXO signed CDs and DVDs as presents, SM Entertainment stated, “We heard she was a fan after she posted on social media about EXO. An acquaintance of her’s wanted to give them to her as a welcoming present so they requested it from us.”
