"2018 Idol Star Athletics Championships" Records Decent Viewership Ratings During 1st Day
MBC’s “2018 Idol Star Athletics Championships New Year Special” kicked off with its first broadcast on February 15.
According to Nielsen Korea, the first and second halves of the broadcast recorded viewership ratings of 5.7 percent and 6.6 percent respectively. This is a decrease in ratings compared to last year as the first and second halves of the “2017 Idol Star Athletics Championships New Year Special” saw ratings of 9.3 percent and 11.8 percent respectively. This year’s ratings were lower, but still signify some interest in the program as it was airing against Olympics coverage.
While not exactly the same time slot, a comparable competitor was KBS2’s “Happy Together.” As KBS’s normal evening programs’ time slots were emptied for Olympics coverage, the only evening KBS show to air was “Happy Together” at 10:50 p.m. KST. It brought in ratings of 5.5 percent and 5.9 percent, similar to the ratings for “2018 Idol Star Athletics Championships.”
The next broadcast of “2018 Idol Star Athletics Championships” will air on February 16 at 5:10 p.m. KST.
