MAMAMOO Talks About The Secret To Their Teamwork, Maintaining Their Bright Image, And More

MAMAMOO shared some insights on a variety of topics concerning their comeback, teamwork, popularity, and more in an interview with bnt International.

The four members posed for a chic photo shoot and showed their maturity, beauty, and glamor. Once the pictorial was over, they dove into an interview to answer a few questions about themselves.

First off, MAMAMOO’s Solar updated fans about her current condition after she hurt her back last month during a rehearsal overseas. She said, “Thanks to many people’s worries, I am fortunately recovering.” Due to her injury, she wasn’t able to join the Olympics torch relay, but she said she was proud to see her members running in it.

Concerning the relay, Moonbyul commented, “I felt pressure and was worried because it was the three of us, but it was a good memory that I was able to take part in such a meaningful event with my members.”

MAMAMOO, whose songs have become hits ever since their debut, talked about the pressure for their upcoming album to become a hit as well. Solar admitted, “We do feel as much pressure as the expectations people have for us, but I think the pressure works as synergy.”

The members also talked about their busy schedule as they release albums and OSTs. They shared, “When promoting, not only are we physically tired, but we’re also mentally exhausted. When we become mentally frustrated or tired, we have to be good at controlling our minds.”

In addition, MAMAMOO responded to the admiration from both their junior and senior singers. Concerning the fact that they’ve been named as role models by junior artists, they replied, “Whenever we hear that, we become embarrassed, but we feel a greater sense of responsibility. We still feel shy about it though.”

Singer Lee Hyori had also described them as her most skillful junior singers, and they expressed how touched they were. MAMAMOO said, “When we first heard that, we screamed in the car. We felt that we needed to work harder in the future.”

When asked about the secret to their good teamwork, the members revealed, “One secret key is to confront each other when needed. We confronted each other often, and after going through those times, we can now communicate with each other by just looking at each other’s eyes.”

During the interview, Wheein was also asked about solo projects she might have coming up. Wheein laughed as she replied, “I actually have a really concrete plan for this year, but it’s still a secret. Of course, I’ll be working hard as a member of MAMAMOO, but I want to show the musical style of not just MAMAMOO’s Wheein but also Jung Wheein.”

MAMAMOO also talked about their difficulties. They admitted, “We’re people too, so we feel sad and tired sometimes, but since we always show bright sides of ourselves, there are times when we grow tired.”

They also added, “Once on stage, we did an event where we made silly faces, but for about half a year after that, people wanted to see that everywhere we went. We want to show other sides of ourselves rather than just a bright and happy image, but there aren’t many chances to do that, so it’s too bad.”

When asked which girl group songs they would like to sing in their own style, the members chose Red Velvet’s “Red Flavor” and “Peek-A-Boo,” BLACKPINK’s “Playing With Fire,” and f(x)’s “4WALLS.”

MAMAMOO also reflected about the fact that they don’t appear on variety shows a lot. They joked, “We appeared in many competition programs, but we’re not suitable for TV, so variety shows are difficult.” Following that, Wheein admitted she would like to appear on a realistic show like “I Live Alone.” She explained, “I think we are most suited for programs that show a natural side of ourselves.”

Last but not least, the members opened up about their love life. They participate in composing their own songs, and many of them are related to love and break-ups. Hwasa said, “I think a love story implies not only relationships between men and women but also many others things.” Moonbyul explained, “I do think about my past experiences with love. I think there will be a day when I’ll be able to reveal I’m in a relationship when I meet someone I love.”

When asked if they had been hit on by the many celebrities who picked them as ideal types, Wheein honestly replied, “It was a long time ago, but I have been hit on,” catching the other members by surprise. All four members chose a positive person as their ideal type. Moonbyul said, “I did think looks are important, but I think it is important to understand each other.”

MAMAMOO has completed filming their new music video, and their comeback is planned for March 7.
