As the world focuses on South Korea during the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, NBC’s news and talk show “Today Show” featured a segment on K-pop!

The February 21 show highlighted SHINee’s Taemin during the promotions of his track “Move” last year. Viewers were shown what it looks like behind the scenes at a music show as Taemin performed for a crowd of fans, and the segment explained how fans contribute to their favorite artists’ performances through “fan chants.”

Now one of K-pop’s biggest stars, Taemin made his debut in 2008 with the boy group SHINee, which has a large domestic and international fanbase. He released his first solo music in 2014, and has been recognized as one of the country’s leading performers, particularly for his outstanding dancing skills. As is common in K-pop, Taemin remains active as a member of his group while promoting as a solo artist, and SHINee recently staged a world tour in 2017, including several stops in North America.

In addition to an interview with Taemin, the “Today Show” show segment also featured clips of music videos by popular K-pop artists as well as BTS’s appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and performance at the 2017 American Music Awards. Also, the segment gave viewers an introduction to other aspects of K-pop such as an explanation of how artists are selected by agencies.
