Rite Of Passage: 7 Thoughts You Will Go Through As A Noona Fan

There comes a time in your life when you realize that you’re starting to become much older than most of the new artists that are debuting. This period of your life can be full of confusion, chaos, and anger. Some have gone through it, some are going through it now, and some may be anticipating it.

Please know that you are not alone! Every year, more and more of us join this group – one that requires wisdom and age. Consider it a rite of passage. Here are some of the thoughts and feelings you will go through as you become a noona fan:

1. What year were they born?

Of course the first thing you do is check what year they were born. You glance quickly to find that most of them were born in this millennium. You feel like an ahjumma! But fortunately, there are some pretty cool ahjummas out there you can model after.

2. Jungkook… “hyung?”

You can’t quite let go of the fact these young idols were born in the 2000s because this means that the person who hates being called “oppa,” BTS’s golden maknae Jungkook, would be considered a hyung to all these new artists in the industry. And that’s absolutely absurd.

3. Where did my youth go?

Their young age also makes you realize that you’re definitely getting older and that your youth may be slipping through your fingers. You question for a moment if there’s ANYTHING you can do to stop time.

4. At least that means high quality pre-debut photos

You think to yourself, what is one way to cope with this old age? You turn to your phone for solace and realize that the digital age is quite a blessing and you can find pre-debut photos at the tip of your fingers.

5. Yaaaas, social media accounts for everyone!

And with that upgrade in technology, we’ve seen (and are so grateful for) the growing trend that definitely wasn’t there five, 10, or 20 years ago. You switch to detective mode and follow these youngins on every social media platform possible. Next thing you know, it’s 3 a.m. and you’re not sure how many V Live’s you’ve just watched.

6. Who doesn’t love having a big sister?

Being old doesn’t have to be a negative thing. Settling into your noona role, you realize there are so many cool older sisters out there to aspire to be like!

7. You know, I’m not thaaat old!

And lastly, that feeling of (semi) relief comes over you when you’re reminded that no matter what, you’ll never be as old as Gong Yoo‘s character in “Goblin“!
