Seo Taiji And Boys Member Lee Juno's Appeal Dismissed After Sentence For Fraud And Sexual Harassment

The court has dismissed the appeal made by Lee Juno, the former member of Seo Taiji and Boys who was charged with committing fraud and indecent acts by force/compulsion.

Lee Juno was accused of fraud when he borrowed roughly 100 million won (approximately $93,000) and 65 million won (approximately $60,450) respectively from two acquaintances and failed to pay them back in 2013 and 2014. Investigation showed that he promised investors 50 percent of his profit in the process of opening a business, but there appeared to be no particular income or assets.

He was also reported for sexually harassing two women in a club in 2016.

On March 23, the Supreme Court dismissed an appeal by Lee Juno and confirmed his previous sentence of one year and two months in prison, suspended for two years. This sentence means that he will spend two years on probation but will have to serve one year and two months in prison if he violates the conditions of his probation during the two years.

Lee Juno has an additional sentence of 120 hours of public service, 40 hours of treatment at a program for sexual violence, and 10 years of having his personal information registered.

At his first trial, Lee Juno was sentenced to one year and six months in prison where the court found him guilty of both fraud and sexual assault. “His crimes are serious as he harassed the victims against their will and he denied it all, showing no interest in the damage he inflicted,” they stated.

Yang Hyun Suk, founder of YG Entertainment and Lee Juno’s fellow member of Seo Taiji and Boys, paid off Lee Juno’s debt and issued a petition to the court. In Lee Juno’s second trial, he received a one-year-and-two-months prison sentence and a two-year probation. The court explained that they took into account that the loans had been paid back. Lee Juno was still found guilty of indecent acts.
