Kim Jong Kook Reflects On His Love Life And Shares Thoughts On Marriage

During the March 25 broadcast of “My Ugly Duckling,” Kim Jong Kook looked back on his love life and shared his thoughts on marriage.

The singer was hanging out with his friends, when they began to talk about relationships. Kim Jong Kook shared that his last two relationships lasted for six to seven years. While watching him from the studio, Shin Dong Yeop commented, “He really is the type to meet one person for a long time, only looking at them.”

After commenting on how he was a good person to go to for dating advice, Kim Jong Kook’s friends carefully asked why he and his previous long-term girlfriend had broken up.

“I just was wrong,” the singer answered. “And, I made her wait too long [for marriage]. For me…I felt that I was lacking in many ways.” He explained that he kept thinking that he had to prepare more for his future wife and children before getting married, but always felt like he still had to do more and wasn’t ready yet. His friend chimed in, “But the way I see it, you really loved her.”

Kim Jong Kook responded, “I was just a little… It was my fault, it was mine. The majority— all of it was my fault. Because I was wrong… That’s why I’m being punished right now. But I’ve always been this way. Regardless of whether I really loved someone or not, I’ve always said that I would get married with whoever is standing next to me when I’m ready.”

The mothers and MCs watching commented, “Jong Kook just wants to have a stronger foundation before he gets married. It seems he is a little like that, personality-wise. But he should strengthen their foundation while living together.”

“My Ugly Duckling” airs every Sunday at 9:05 p.m. KST.
