MONSTA X Talks About Their Meaningful Performance On

MONSTA X has shared their thoughts on their especially meaningful performance on the latest episode of JTBC’s “Sugar Man 2.”

The group appeared as guests on the April 1 broadcast of the music variety program, which features popular artists putting a modern spin on classic hit songs. The episode was a particularly emotional one, as it focused on two legendary singers who had passed away at an early age.

MONSTA X performed a new rearrangement of the late Kim Sung Jae’s “As I Told You,” the only solo hit the singer released before tragically passing away at the age of 23. Although his career only lasted five years, Kim Sung Jae left an indelible mark on K-pop history as a member of the immensely popular duo Deux, whose songs are still famous in Korea to this day.

Not only did MONSTA X perform “As I Told You,” but they also honored Kim Sung Jae through a dance cover medley of Deux’s greatest hits.

After the broadcast, the idols commented, “It was a tremendous honor and joy to be able to perform the song of an amazing senior artist who left his mark on music history. The performance was very special [for us], and we will never forget and always remember the music and performances of Kim Sung Jae and Choi Jin Young.”

MONSTA X had previously covered the original version of Kim Sung Jae’s “As I Told You” on a special episode of KBS’s “Music Bank” last year.
