2PM's Junho, Jung Ryeo Won, And Jang Hyuk Reveal Unique Food-Themed Ratings Promise For 'Wok Of Love'

2PM’s Junho, Jung Ryeo Won, and Jang Hyuk guested on the May 7 broadcast of SBS Radio’s “Choi Hwa Jung’s Power Time” as the main leads of SBS’s new Monday-Tuesday drama “Wok of Love.”

The actors started off by first introducing their characters. Regarding his character chef Seo Poong, Junho said, “He has great pride in his cooking. He is the recipient of two Michelin stars, thus thinks highly of himself — even above the main chef.” Junho added, “He’s a little hard to play because he appears as a completely arrogant person at first, but is actually only kind of arrogant. I’m also working hard to improve my cooking.”

Jung Ryeo Won plays the forever-hungry Dan Sae Woo. The actress explained, “She was originally very rich, but becomes bankrupt one morning. Her life changes after she receives jjajangmyun [black bean noodles]. She is someone who doesn’t give up her dreams or hopes.” Jung Ryeo Won added, “There is a love triangle. We haven’t received the ending yet though, so I don’t know how it will turn out.”

Jang Hyuk will be taking on the role of Chinese restaurant owner Doo Chil Sung. Jang Hyuk remarked, “I don’t know how to cook Chinese cuisine, but I’m okay at cooking other cuisines. You know how you can’t really find the jjajangmyun [we know] in China? I actually like authentic Chinese cuisine instead.”

Junho also talked more about the challenges of playing a chef, explaining, “It’s not too bad because we can just follow recipes. In Chinese cooking, fire is everything. For sweet and sour shrimp, you add the sauce and fry it in a wok. Things like that were easy.” Junho continued, “Flipping the wok is the hardest part. I had a hard time even after seeing the script. I have to flip the wok and talk a lot. I felt a sense of accomplishment after constantly overcoming my limits.”

The actors concluded the broadcast with a ratings promise for the drama. While Jang Hyuk commented, “I don’t know [what to do],” Jung Ryeo Won said, “We did talk about how instead of a certain percentage, if we just got first place, we should invite viewers and cook for them. If we get first place for at least two consecutive weeks, we will invite 50 viewers and prepare jjajangmyun and fried rice for them.”

“Wok of Love” premiered on Monday, May 7 at 10 p.m. KST, and is available on Viki! Watch the first episode below!
