Sooyoung Talks About Girls' Generation's Unwavering Friendship And Her Plans For The Future

Sooyoung recently sat down with news outlet Top Star News to talk about her continued close friendship with the other members of Girls’ Generation, as well as her plans for the future.

In 2017, Sooyoung, Tiffany, and Seohyun left SM Entertainment after deciding to not renew their contracts with the agency. Since then, the members of Girls’ Generation have been focusing on individual activities, branching out and showcasing their talents into a variety of fields. When asked if the members of Girls’ Generation still meet up despite not being under the same label, Sooyoung replied, “Yes. We’re always messaging each other and we meet up quite often, even if it’s just a few of us at a time. I’m actually meeting up with some of them tomorrow.”

Since her departure from SM Entertainment, Sooyoung has been focusing on her acting career. She was recently cast as the leading role in a Korean-Japanese collaboration film “Memories of a Dead-End” (literal title). Describing her upcoming role, Sooyoung explained, “It’s going to be the story of a woman who moves to an unfamiliar place and learns to get back on her feet again after facing unexpected difficulties. It’s based on a novel by Yoshimoto Banana and the original novel is so great and detailed that I was able to fall into the character with ease. About 80 percent of the lines are in Japanese, and I think this is the first time I’m playing a role in a different language. It will be the story of an ordinary woman and her journey to grow as a person.”

Despite currently focusing on her acting career, Sooyoung shared that she has a strong desire to continue her singing career as well. She stated, “I still want to create music. My passion to sing, dance, and create performances that wow people is still strong. For now, I want to focus on acting but I would love to release new music in the future.”

While working on her upcoming film, Sooyoung is also planning to hold an overseas fan meeting in June, and she shared her hopes to participate in more projects before the year ends.

Finally, she wrapped up her interview with a message of gratitude for her fans. She said, “I’m always grateful for your support. Though I haven’t been able to greet you very often, I hope you will see these moments as me taking a break to catch my breath before I return with good stories and music. Thank you for always giving me more love than I could have hoped for.”
