IU's Agency Officially Takes Legal Action Against Malicious Commenters
IU’s agency FAVE Entertainment has given an update on their decision to take legal action against malicious commenters.
On May 21, FAVE Entertainment released the following statement:
“Hello, this is FAVE Entertainment.
“We have informed you previously in April about our constant monitoring and preparations to take legal actions against recent comments and posts online and on social media that maliciously spread rumors, slander, and sexually harass our artist IU.
“In cases where the commenters have repeatedly shown malicious intentions, we put together the evidence fans reported with the monitoring data of our own legal team. On May 9, 2018, we filed a criminal complaint through law firm Minsan with the cyber investigation team at Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency based on insults and defamation.
“In addition, we would like to inform you that we will adhere to strong legal actions against those who have written and spread slanders with no leniency.
“Also, the cases received in May are just a small percentage of the data we have collected and reviewed. We are constantly preparing to file additional complaints regarding defamation of our artist online and on social media including slander, personal insults, and sexual harassment.
“We will continue to do our best to protect our artists on a legal basis. Thank you.”
IU announced her decision to take strong legal action against malicious commenters in 2013 and has maintained her stance since.
