Yang Hyun Suk Shares More Plans For YG Artists Including BIGBANG's Seungri And SECHSKIES's Eun Ji Won
Yang Hyun Suk, the founder of YG Entertainment, has shared more details of the plans he has for YG artists in 2018!
On May 25, Yang Hyun Suk took to YG Life to answer questions fans have had about BIGBANG, WINNER, iKON, and BLACKPINK, as well as to discuss Katie Kim’s departure. He returned on May 26 to speak more about Seungri’s upcoming solo comeback, Eun Ji Won’s solo album, and other projects.
First, Yang Hyun Suk answered whether YG will be debuting any new groups this year. He replied that as many things have changed in the agency, including BIGBANG’s enlistment and Psy’s departure, they have decided to push back any rookie group debuts to next year and focus on the growth of their current artists. With iKON and WINNER having already made comebacks and BLACKPINK preparing for theirs in June, Yang Hyun Suk concluded by sharing that they plan for these groups to release more music and participate in a variety of activities in the second half of 2018 as well.
He also spoke about the solo comeback of BIGBANG’s youngest member Seungri. He stated that Seungri will be releasing his first solo studio album in early July, and also hold his first solo concert in Seoul in August. Sharing that Seungri’s solo album will be released earlier than expected, he joked, “He [Seungri] sent me confirmation request messages several times a day, so the hardest task while being hospitalized was responding to Seungri’s messages since I couldn’t use my arms.” Yang Hyun Suk added that Seungri will also star in the upcoming variety show “YG Electronics,” which will debut on Netflix in September.
Yang Hyun Suk also shared that he currently has two projects he hopes to launch this year. The first is the creation of a YG hip hop crew to continue the legacy of YG Family, which showcased talent such as Jinusean, 1TYM, and BIGBANG’s G-Dragon. The new generation hip hop crew will include members of WINNER and iKON, and the goal is to release a new song within this year. He stated, “Members can focus on hip hop songs they couldn’t while they were part of their own teams, and they will be able to release solo tracks very often.” The second project is the opening of a subsidiary company called YGX, which will be in charge of managing HIGHGRND, opening YG’s first dance academy, and merging with NHR, a DJ label operated by Seungri.
Finally, Yang Hyun Suk concluded by sharing that one thing he hopes to do in the near future is produce a solo hip hop album for SECHSKIES’s Eun Ji Won, which is something he’s wanted to do since he began working with the group. He also apologized for not bringing news about other YG artists as he said, “I’m sorry I couldn’t mention SECHSKIES, Lee Hi, and Lee Soo Hyun from AKMU in this writing, but please know that I will always do my best.”
