Dohee, Kwak Dong Yeon, And Bae Da Bin Join ASTRO's Cha Eun Woo In New Drama
Expectations are growing for JTBC’s new drama “My ID is Gangnam Beauty” (literal title) as Dohee, Kwak Dong Yeon, and rookie actress Bae Da Bin are confirmed to appear.
A remake of the popular webtoon of the same title, the drama centers on Kang Mi Rae, a girl who has been bullied since she was young due to her looks. She goes through plastic surgery before coming to university and the drama unfolds as she learns to embrace herself through a series of unexpected events.
Im Soo Hyang plays the female lead Kang Mi Rae while ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo takes on the role of Do Kyung Suk, an extremely good-looking guy who becomes Mi Rae’s friend.
On May 31, Dohee’s agency revealed that the actress was cast for the role of Oh Hyun Jung in “My ID is Gangnam Beauty.” Oh Hyun Jung is a childhood friend of Kang Mi Rae who dreams of being a hip hop musician. Although she appears mean on the outside, she actually is a warm-hearted girl who supports Kang Mi Rae.
Kwak Dong Yeon confirmed on the same day that he was also joining the drama. “In the drama, Kwak Dong Yeon plays Do Kyung Suk’s roommate Yeon Woo Young, who is a graduate student and a TA studying chemistry,” his agency shared.
Yeon Woo Young is from a poor family and has gone through several break-ups due to his financial situation. With these experiences, he becomes an expert in dating women. Yeon Woo Young initially falls for Kang Mi Rae because of her looks but his feelings grow deeper as he comes to appreciate her thoughtful personality.
Bae Da Bin, a rookie actress who has appeared in “Should We Kiss First” and “Queen of Mystery 2” is also confirmed to join the new drama. She will take on the role of Kwon Yoon Byul, the vice president of the student council.
Kwon Yoon Byul is a character who is even more popular among girls than among boys. In fact, many people mistake her for a guy when they first see her due to her boyish looks. To really portray her character, Bae Da Bin has cut her long hair and pledged to show off her boyish charms.
“My ID is Gangnam Beauty” is scheduled to premiere sometime in July.
